I am so very sorry. I just don't know what to say. I'm glad that you were able to be with her when she died. And I hope the necropsy will give you some answers - I'm just shocked, as you must be, too.

Godspeed, Princess.  I have lit a candle for you.  http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=i

Peace and comfort to your grieving mom.

I'm so sorry you lost Princess, elysmom. She knew you were with her and that you loved her dearly. I do hope you go ahead with the necropsy as even the vets don't have answers for you. I also hope that if it is food-related in any way, shape or form, that you do contact Weruva. As I've said, you will be able to speak with the owner, not a customer service person. I'm wondering if the vets had tested for botulism at all. I know you're grieving -- we've all been there -- some of us in a similar capacity with tainted food, but in the end, it was because we all demanded answers, that melamine and related compounds were discovered. You could save a lot of other cats if this food needs to be recalled.

Godspeed little Princess.

I am very shocked and saddened to hear that Princess has died, elymom.  Perhaps there was something else going on besides the pancreatitis, which is not usually fatal.  The sudden blindness is very strange, and not at all associated with pancreatitis.

I hope that you may be able to find support from friends and family to get you through this very hard time.  Especially in circumstances like this, a pet loss support group can be helpful.

My heart goes out to you.

I am so sorry for your loss elymom ! I will light a candle for Angel Princess. I don't know that anything wrong with the food would cause blindness , but hope you can get an answer. Many times we never know. I'm very glad you were able to be with her at the end, I am sure it helped her to go peacefully. Please don't blame yourself, you fed a high quality food and did everything possible medically. Sometimes it just isn't enough.  Cry Cry

To all the good pet parents:  This will be my last post.  I have to make funeral arrangements for my darling pet. Princess was really the sweetest cat.  She never used her paws in anger.  Despite all the cruelty dealt her.  Her body showed the damage from the teeth the monsters broke to her inability to jump very high.  I do not care about explainations from any pet food company.  My baby is dead.  The strays won't eat that food and the company itself ADMITS they changed the formula.  How hard would it have been to post a notice that the formula was changed, please let us know if you notice any dietary changes.  I notice my posts have been edited.  So much for American freedom of speech.  Silencing the public in the face of awful events.  Thank you everyone for loving her even though you never met her.  My Princess will always live in my heart. All I have now is an empty house.

The post was edited by a moderator to remove accusations that were made about a pet food claiming them as fact, without evidence.  Forum guidelines are very clear as to the reasons for the edit.  See

http://itchmoforums.com/your-problems-with-pet-food/warning-making-accusations-or-claims-about-pet-food-t418.0.html

"Do report what you find, but be accurate and fair.

We should let you know that if you are claiming something negative about a product (IE: Product X contains poisons, or uses roadkill) please make sure that you state either "I believe" or provide evidence of the claim. Your opinions are totally fine as long as you don't claim something not true as a fact. As you may know, many pet food companies visit this site and we would hate for you or us to be sued by what's posted here. We hate having to remove anyone's posts. We also don't want to cause unsubstantiated panic.

Itchmo or any of our admins will not be responsible for unsubstantiated comments.

Thank you!

These requirements have been in effect since the beginning of the forum, and it is expected that everyone who wishes to post about a pet food will read and comply with them.  While we have Freedom of Speech, it can get us into a courtroom if we're not discreet enough to know when, where, and how to use it appropriately.

What the pet food company said they found was the mix, i.e., the food was too soupy/and/or proportions of ingredients already in the recipe.

Unless food is tested, nothing else can be said.  The company should be made aware that there may be a suspect batch but they need to know the numbers from the bottom of the cans - from us -the consumers. We can only do our part and let them know. Always let them know.

Cats are very sensitive animals. Any change to a favorite food, major/danger OR minor/merely unappetizing, is detectable and can be a turnoff to a cat.

Once again, I feel absolutely horrible that this poor little girl, who suffered so much, passed away undeservedly. Please, elymom, please find the strength to get to the bottom of what happened. Do it for her and for others. If no one spoke up about the deaths in 2007, I don't know how many more would have been sickened and killed. If no one said anything about the deaths in Australia, they wouldn't have new legislation making it illegal to irradiate pet food. It is so very important to find the truth and if there is a problem, to have the company address it. We have not heard of any other incidents with Weruva, but there is always the tip of the iceberg.

Horrible story, I can understand your rage, I also have lost beloved pets due to toxic pet food and feel for you,  and I have to say that I would be almost as angry with the AMC vet clinic as I was with the pet food company. I think you have learned a hard lesson. And you will hopefully know better when your next pet needs help.
As so many people here recommended, change vets! The next time, do NOT feel bad about changing a vet if you think they are not helping your pet.  If it seems to you that you and your pet are being treated unfairly and not being given adequate help, YOU ARE PROBABLY RIGHT,  so  GO SOMEWHERE ELSE before the situation gets worse.  A 2nd  opinion is always valuable!!!

Please do write down the names of all the other vet clinics that have been recommended to you in this thread, so that the next time you have a problem, you can find a vet clinic that will do more to help your pet and not rip you off.

With other excellent vets in NYC, those people would not have seen me again, after the first cold hearted $600 with no diagnoses or anything helpful to say and nothing at all done to  help my little cat.

It is so sad that we have to be confronted by such people when we are in  need and trying to save a dear little pet.
I have had a couple really sad experiences, and changed vets many times.  AND I also visited a big fancy clinic, who wanted $1000 to walk in the door, which I used only ONE time.  Expensive does NOT necessarily mean better!!  I am sorry you had to learn that in such a hard way.

You must just tell yourself that Princess is in the arms of her maker now, and will never be in pain again, she will never suffer cruelty or disease again.  You and Princess have my prayers.

I stopped giving my cat the chicken.  I always take a whiff of any food  before feeding it and I started smelling a weirdish smell.   I tried several batches and each smelled the same.  It used to have a real chicken type soup smell and now I don't know what it smells like.

Glad I found this thread, thanks so much for telling me about it.
My can of P Licken chicken is October 2014, and I just threw it away, as well as what I put in their dishes.  I was hoping they would eat it, but now it is in the garbage.  Gee, Sweetie was already not feeling well, I feel sorry that I gave her this yesterday. I guess they are smart to not eat it, even tho we don't know what the problem is.

I am sooo extremely sorry about Princess.  I lost my cat Tommy to kidney failure after eating a Nutromax food that was recalled a week after he ate it.  That was back in the great pet food debacle in 2007.
I also was trying to feed him a better quality food.

Do we think it is safe to be giving her the Weruva Poynesian BBQ???  If Weruva is  having a big problem that has not been identified??

You know, I have a friend who only feeds her cats Life's Abundance dry food.  They look great. They ate that all through the pet food mess in 2007, and never got ill.  I have always said they should be eating canned food too, but with all the problems with canned food, I am beginning to wonder if they are right.
I am so sorry now that Sweetie ate so much of the paws licken chicken yesterday.  And now I am a bit afraid to continue giving her the weruva polynesian chicken!!  She just had some too.
With all the money we spend, we shouldn't have to worry about poisoning our beloved pets.!!!  And Weruva is  on Susan's LIST of foods she would feed her own cats, that I just paid for!!! that's where I found it recommended!!

Again, I am soooo sorry about poor little Princess,.  Very anxiety producing!  Am thinking about returning the rest of my polynesian bbq now.
After losing 3 cats to kidney failure from bad food, I am very easily alarmed now.
