I was visiting the Wellness website today (in search of some other information) and noted that they were describing Wellness Core dry cat food as having a "new, easier to eat kibble shape."
I tried the food about a year ago and found that I could not use it because some of my cats choked on the kibble, apparently because of the small, hard, round shape.
Can anyone who uses this food tell me when the shape change was made, and what the shape was changed to? I did not find anything on the website that told me specifically.

I got two samples of Wellness a couple months ago. One CORE and one Healthy Weight formula. The Healthy Weight formula kibble is like tiny pellets, for lack of a better word. I can see where they might be a choking hazard. I did not feed that to my cats. The CORE kibble is almost triangular in shape, small, but not too small. My cats did not have a problem eating it. Hope this helps

Yes, that does help. Thanks. Was the triangular Core kibble really hard, or did it break up fairly easily when they bit into it?

catbird, Mine too is triangular in shape. Cats had no problem biting into it. I am not feeding indoor cats dry anymore, much to their dismay. Older throwaway outside is missing a few teeth and she too, has no trouble. I've even seen her "inhale" the food........doesn't chew and still no problems that I have seen.

My cats sometimes steal the dogs' CORE out of their bowls while I am portioning it out, and they have no trouble breaking it up and eating it. I have very determined cats.
Haven't used the feline CORE for awhile. It used to be rather big, I thought, but my cats still had no problems eating it.

The new shape of the Wellness CORE is the same shape as all of its other kibble foods (roundish / pellet-shaped). It used to be triangular. According to OMH, nothing else (i.e. formulation) has changed.

Thanks, IheartRufus. That is a step in the wrong direction for me, because the little pellet shape is what my cat chokes on. Oh well, at least I was saved from buying a bag to find out.

I'm considering trying some of the Wellness Core. Has anyone seen or know of anyone that has had problems with this food? Has anyone had it tested? I'm also trying to figure out who manufactures the food. Anyone know? Any thoughts on the food that you will share will be appreciated.

I got my first bag of Core and have been trying out a few "pellets" now and then over the past week or so. The pellets are small (like Wellness), but they seem softer to me (more easily crumbles). The cats don't like it much, as far as taste goes. I don't know if this is an issue or not, but this morning I found a large clump (as big as the tip of my pinky finger) of what looks like dry food that didn't get into the shaper machine. It almost looks like a small piece of freeze-dried meat. Nevertheless, I put a bowl (well, 1/4 cup) of the Core down and nobody would touch it. So I put in some chicken flakes and...they sucked out the flakes.

Forgot to post here. When we adopted the new cat, BJ, last month, he had been fed kibble routinely. So I used CORE to transition him to wet. He had no trouble eating it, even though he has a lopsided, healed broken jaw (split down the middle lower jaw). When the other cats smelled the kibble, they wanted it, too. So everyone got a few meals of kibble, including the old guys. Nobody had trouble eating it or vomitting. Also gave the 4-5-month-old kittens CORE while I transitioned them to wet. They didn't have problems either. Two of my other cats have missing teeth. The oldest had canines extracted and an 8-year-old is missing a lot of her front teeth included her canines so has to "mouth" the food. This is the new smaller kibble. I was hesistant to use it because of the posts, but luckily we did not have a problem. I have a big bag of this since one of the on-line services sent me feline CORE instead of canine CORE.

My guys are now eating Core when there are chicken flakes on them, and nobody has had any trouble.
However, it's certainly not favored, and is only eaten as sort of a last resort.
