For those who requested more details re the varieties, lot numbers, and use-by dates for the Fancy Feast foods I fed my kitties, 4 of whom developed the violent, projectile vomiting and lost their appetites for more than a week, here is the info on the cans I pulled from each flat before returning all to PetSmart for return to the manufacturer (which they did, rather than reselling):

Turkey & Giblets Feast  Lot #72781162 L11801152     Best By Oct 2009
                                Lot #73391160 L11800343     Best By Dec 2009

Savory Salmon Feast    Lot #72771162 L11660202     Best By Oct 2009
                                Lot #73131160 L21660122     Best By Nov 2009

Tender Liver & Chicken Feast   Lot #73181160 L11780531     Best By Nov 2009

Gourmet Chicken Feast   Lot #72751162 L31940936     Best By Oct 2009
                                  Lot #73421160 L11342015     Best By Dec 2009

Cod, Sole & Shrimp Feast  Lot #72761162 L91330838  Best By Oct 2009
                                    Lot #73181160 L11332036  Best By Nov 2009

Of the above, the most suspect are, to me, the Tender Liver & Chicken, the Turkey & Giblets, and the Savory Salmon Feast, as these are the varieties I definitely fed to the four cats who vomited on the same evening, all within 1/2 to 1 hour after consuming the FF.  And I'm fairly certain I fed those varieties from the Lot numbers produced by plant 1160, since that was the batch of flats I was just finishing up before beginning to feed from the more recently purchased batch that were all from Plant No. 1162.

The good news is that all four of my sick kitties have, as of yesterday, finally regained their appetites and are eating their Friskies Turkey & Giblets, Friskies Chicken & Liver, Innova Evo Turkey & Chicken (95% protein), and Innova Evo Beef (95% protein) canned foods.  No more syringe feedings are necessary.  None of them has developed any kind of infection that could account for their nausea, vomiting and appetite loss.

So I'm simply no longer comfortable feeding my guys the Fancy Feast original "Feast" varieties and will stick with their current diet and continue looking for something affordable and good quality that I can eventually substitute for the Friskies Chicken & Liver and Friskies Turkey & Giblets, since these are also made by Purina and are of lower quality in any event.

Thanks for all of the info and, especially, for your support and sympathy through this mess.  It's invaluable.

THANK YOU Pat!!!   Kiss

And I am sooooo glad that your kitties are OK now and have regained their appetites!  It is scrary whe something like this happens and I am sure you are right that it was the food that caused ALL the kitties to vomit soon after eating the suspect foods.  My sister-in-law is returning her crates to wherever she bought them (Petco I think).  I am accompanying her to the pet store where I buy my cats' commerical food rations (they are on a home-prep diet primarily).  Again, thank you so much for alerting us here of problems you have encountered recently with FF.

I am doing research today because my 5 year old healthy kitty died at 11:45 last night from shock = the last thing she ate was her morning can of fancy feast - vomited x1  at 11:30 a.m. - I left her resting and symptoms of being bit of an  upset digestion  at 01:00 p.m. came home to diarrhea and a very sick cat feverish/moaning/sick cat at 04:45 p.m. and rushed to vet at 004:55 - dead at 11:45 despite IV's , xrays, and a host of meds - 11/24/08 Kabuki.     I'm having an autopsy done because the thing is so mysterious.    I've kept the cans and the packaging from the fancy feast.  Laurie

So sorry to hear about your kitty!  What a tragedy.  My heart goes out to you.  Here are some threads on the forum that you might also find helpful in your research, if you have not already discovered them:

laurie,

I am so sorry about your kitty.  Ever since my 2 were made ill by FF Elegant Medleys back in March of 2007.  I weened them off canned completely after trying a few foo-foo brands which I found ever cans consistance to look different and totally freaked me out.

My cats are wet food junkies so now I feed them shredded chicken breasts, canned minced clams, sardines, wild alaskan salmon and the big no no, LOL boiled ham lunch meat.  To satisfy the wet food addition.

My vet said this was fine as long as found a staple dry I trusted, yay right!!!!!!!!!  No such thing as totally trusted pet food wet or dry anymore.  I first started using KumpiKat and now as of last month I started mixing the KK with Avoderm which they love, but am nervous about purchasing a new bag, which it is almost time to do.  Tried EVO and kitties systems couldn't handle it gave them loose stool.

Very sorry about your cat.  How awful.  Will keep you in my thoughts.

Can you tell us exactly what kind of Fancy Feast and lot numbers, please?

Laurie, Im so sorry for your sudden loss of your kitty.  Its hard enough losing them at all and then to have it be so sudden without warning is even harder.  It will be interesting to see what the results of the necropsy are if you are willing to share that info once you know.  Also, would you be able to let us know what flavor of Fancy Feast and the batch number at the bottom of the cans?  Best wishes to you during your very sad time, Sandi

Oh my goodness!!! Laurie, I am soooo sorry over what happened to your poor kitty.  It is simply frightening, what you described - like there was some poison in the food somehow.  I hope you and your vet can get to the bottom of what happenedand at least get some explanation as to what happened.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
