Do any of the cans you are using have * * on them? Just curious.

We've been using April, May, and June (2011) lots the last few months.

Tender Liver & Chicken Feast
JUN 2011
91671160L21781334
16 of 16 cats had this flavor for the first time and several cats had diarrhea (youngest and middle aged)  Senior cats have had it a few additional times without problems.
-------
Gourmet Chicken Feast
MAY, 2011
This number was from the case/ I don't have can numbers handy.
9128 1160 2100 L01
No problems noted.
-------------
Turkey & Giblets Feast
**
APR 2011
9111 1160 L1180 0647

no **
APR 2011
9111 1160 L2180 0646

No problems

Yes, the gourmet chicken dated May 2011 that was rejected had two **above,
but the numbers don't match the numbers from your case. I have one can of that
left and the number is 91351160L11341736.
I also have a turkey and giblets dated May 2011 - no stars- numbered
91421162L21802259 that was refused.
I also had this same problem a while back with any cans dated Nov 2010.
No illness - my cats just didn't eat them with their usual enthusiasm, like
they didn't taste right.  Some consistency would be appreciated.

This gets really confusing.   :-0  (hope I got this correct)

rom6,

Here is a link to Mandycat's code information.  According to what she was told, the first digit is the year of manufacture.  The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th digit is the julian date.  So, our Chicken cans were produced on different days of the month, same facility.  Your turkey and chicken cans look to have been made at 2 different facilities (1160 and 1162).  Mine were made at (1160).  I try to stick to the 1160 cans, but I don't recall exactly why I started doing that.   Embarrassed  It's been a looong 2 years.

Sandi,

Do you have your can codes available?

Thanks, Justme.  I just went and found the link to my post about the codes and when I came back you had already posted it.  I hope it helps.  When I was using the Fancy Feast, I know that there were some cans that were eaten more enthusiastically than others, but I can't say that Mandy got sick from them.  I think it is a variation in the ingredients, and I think it is something that is found in just about all of the pet foods.  I particularly thought that it may have been a stronger tasting liver in some of them because that is what I thought I smelled in some of the cans she wasn't crazy about.

JustMe,  I wrote to Purina to ask about those asterisks also, as I recall.  Don't know whether I posted an answer, but will go back to my e-mails and see if I can find what they said about them.

I've been wondering about the liver too, Mandycat.  I noticed some of my younger and middle-aged cats got diarrhea when they had Petguard Premium Feast with liver.  But not the seniors, thank goodness.

Oh, I see that I did post the answer to the asterisk question.  I should have read the thread further.   Roll Eyes

Thanks for the link.  I live in a small town with only two sources,
so I usually look for the freshest dates and hope for the best.

JM, the date on the May batch I have, so this would have been made in 2009?  My cans have no asterisks on them..

Rom6, I second and third and fourth and fifth your comment saying consistency would be appreciated.  Sophers has in the past turned her nose up at certain batches but this time she ate the May like there was no problems, except I only fed it to her 2 or 3 days at the most and then she got diahrrea so I took it away so I dont know if she would have kept on eating it or wouldve turned her nose up and started with the scratchy-scratchy, cover-cover thing....her poo yesterday was better but still a little runny at the end but Im hoping today might be even better....we are in a holding pattern right now... Wink  I dont know that her diahrrea was caused by this batch of food.....but it did start within 2 to 3 days of eating this new batch and she had been having perfect poo's for close to 2 months and she had been eating the same thing as Ms Picky just likes Tender Liver & Chicken.....at least for now.... Undecided

The other thing that bothers me is I had contacted Purina asking them if they use Trouw as a supplier and the wouldnt say, just said they cant give that info.....I think Carol had the same response...which I personally take that to mean possibly yes as other companies I contacted said they didnt use them.  Like Rom.....this is all my cats opinion.   Tongue Smiley

Sandi,
Yes, your food was made on the 129th day of 2009.
