Im not sure if anyone on this board feeds Marksman Green Bag. But I just bought a new bag this evening and 1 1/2 hours after feeding tonight I lost my entire kennel. I had enough time to get them to my Vet and he ran stool and all blood work and found nothing wrong. He is haveing me take the bodies to MU to a pathologists specialist first thing in the morning so they can do a full autopsy. Plus do a work up on the feed as well he thinks the feed was TOXIC! I dont want to scare anyone but just dont want this to happen to anyone else is all. . . . .

Quote
They was full of energy when feeding then I had a dog baking his butt off so I went back out and they was all lethargic stumbling around like they was drunk. I rushed them to the Vet but it was to late.

Quote
Yes this was a fresh bag just bought it tonight.

Yes Im taking the whole bag minus a sample for my records to have it tested as well. . . . The maker of the feed may be a fertilizer company Im still researching it all

As of now, we don't know if the feed is toxic or not--I also don't know who makes this dog food and would appreciate anyone who does to post it to this thread.

Okay let's get a jump on this and get down to business.

http://www.cargillfoods.com/

Cargill, Incorporated is a privately held, multinational corporation, and is based in the state of Minnesota in the United States. It was founded in 1865, and has grown into the country's largest privately held corporation (in terms of revenue).

Cargill's business activities include purchasing, processing, and distributing grain and other agricultural commodities, and the manufacture and sale of livestock feed and ingredients for processed foods and pharmaceuticals. It also operates a large financial services arm, which manages financial risks in the commodity markets for the company. In 2003 it split out a portion of its financial operations into a hedge fund called Black River Asset Management, http://www.black-river.com/ with about $10 billion of assets and liabilities[2]. It owns 2/3 of the shares of The Mosaic Company, one of the world's leading producers and marketers of concentrated phosphate and potash crop nutrients.

Despite its size, the corporation is still a family owned business  Roll Eyes

This is interesting. I've never seen this pass/fail for samples before. It came up when I Googled the dog food:

http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:fGlx70PStSgJ:www.mda.mo.gov/pi/pdf/feed_smry.pdf+Marksman+28-18+Dog+Food&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca

This is an html view of the pdf. The pdf is better for reading. Has anyone seen something like this and what does it mean, if anything?

ETA: never mind, it's a feed summary from Missouri Dept of Ag. Interesting. I think it's called Marksman 28-18 Dog food (can't find a reference to green bag).

I am confused....I can't find the "Green Bag" dog food under Marksman...is this the brand name of the food or a supplier/store?  Might just be my not so hot internet abilities though... Embarrassed

I too am baffled about the name. Usually I can locate information very easily. The only thing I can find reference to is that Marksman is made by Cargill.

http://www.mda.mo.gov/pi/pdf/feed_smry.pdf

Here's the pdf and the Marksman food from Cargill is on page 24.  They indicate they tested 2 samples of the Marksman Dog Food 24/18 formula and both passed the state of Missouri's testing whenever these tests were done--no date on the link or the pdf that I saw.

According to their website, Cargill makes Nutrena and Loyall pet foods--there's nothing I saw there which referred to the Marksman brand of foods.

Have no idea whether "Green Bag" is the true name of this product or whether it's just what the poster called it.

I'm not finding anything much on Marksman either.  Sad  Thanks to all!  Grin

Marksman appears to be possibly another internet distributing racket. Domains for sale.

menusux:

It appears the PDF is from 2007:

http://search.mo.gov/search?q=feed+summary+pet+food&sort=date%3AD%3AL%3Ad1&client=mda&entqr=0&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF-8&num=10&ud=1&output=xml_no_dtd&proxystylesheet=mda&site=mda

second heading

http://www.mda.mo.gov/pi/pdf/feedsummaryreport.pdf

you can do a search in the PDF and locate Marksman.

Nutrena Feeds Elevator

    LOCATION: Peoria, Illinois
    DATE OF CONSTRUCTION: 1930's (?)
DATE OF ABANDONMENT: Early 1990's (?)

I hope this isn't typical of their current standard of commitment to quality and environmental stewardship.

Abandoning assets and letting the "town folks" deal with it.

Something is just not right with this. There seemed to have been a some time a dog food called Marksman. However there are almost no references anywhere to this food.

Also the site marksmandogfood.com is up for sale as a domain. There is NO way a company like Cargill would have allowed the domain to become available if it was still their product.

Just is not right.......... Huh

Apparently the poster purchased this food in the Kansas City area.
