I just opened a new can in a new case of Wellness chicken for my girls, and both were very hungry, but neither wanted t. One finally ate about a 1/2 oz, but that's all.  I opened a another can of a different flavor and they wolfed it down. Now I may be neurotic, but something tells me something is not right if they both refuse it and they normally eat this flavor just fine. I feel bad I cajoled Katie into eating the 1/2 oz.
The lot in question is the 3 oz. Chicken w/ best buy date of 13 DEC 09  code 7WCCC1, is anyone feeding this lot? Have any problems w/ kitties eating it or vomiting, etc.?

I never used the chicken. I use chicken and herring however and my cats love it.
Have they ever turned down any food with chicken before? Does the chicken food smell different than usual?

I've been feeding mostly chicken for 4 months now, but not that lot number.  What area of the country are you in annabelle_katie?  I'm in New England and all my cases have S1 at the end.  I've never seen C1, but I buy the biggest cans.

Also, was that can they refused from a case?  If so, had they eaten others from the case?  The cases usally are from the same run of cans.

Maybe I should start putting the lot numbers on the Cat Food Experience forum.  I know you started that thread awhile back, but it got buried. I still have the link.

Yeah, I thought it was a good idea about posting the lot numbers, but I guess enough people weren't interested and like you said, the post got buried. Undecided
No, it was a new case of food, they hadn't eaten from this case before, that is what concerns me.
I think the difference in codes on the cans are related to the sizes of the cans and what plant they are made in, they are apparently (from what I can tell) made in different places. The 3 oz sizes say "product of Canada" and the the 5.5 oz cans say "Made in USA" and the 5.5 oz cans end is S4. I don't know where the biggest cans are made.
Oh, I am in Ohio BTW.

No, they LOVE chicken, everything chicken! They like the chicken and herring as well. I don't know if this new case of food smells different, maybe slightly, hard to tell, you know.
I don't know what to think, something certainly is different for the girls to act like that. I know it can't be a new formulation, I have fed them cans of chicken with newer expiration dates (so have been made more recently) than this case. I think there is a 3 year expiry date on these cans, so anything with an expiration date of Dec 09 was made in Dec 06 (before the recalls). Maybe I should try and only buy cans made after the recalls? I don't know.
I hope it was okay, since Katie did eat a little of it. The rest of the cans are going back to the store tomorrow.

You are probably right, I thought all Wellness canned was made at Menu. I think the codes are different depending which Menu plant it is made in.

My 12.5 ounce cans say S1.  made in America.

anabelle:  Let us know how your kitties are, particularly the one who ate a little. I'm going to post the codes from you previous post on the Cat Food Experience Wellness thread.

You can also call Wellness or email them about it.

Have you ever fed them Chicken Wellness before?  Is it that they just don't like that flavor?  On another note, when I first tried Wellness I had one cat that would not eat any of the turkey/salmon from one date lot - just walked away.  He would eat every other date lot. When I called the company they said that since they don't use preservatives or stabilizers that the one lot could have smelled different to him.  The other two cats had no problem with it - but I returned it just to be safe.  They have been eating Wellness still though for a couple more months with no problem.

FYI - codes ending with S1 or C1 are made by Menu - which I think is all of them!  I was told that by the Wellness people.

I haven't had your particular lot, but my cats have been eating the Wellness canned chicken without issue.

I'm currently feeding 3 oz Wellness chicken with no apparent problems.

I had a lengthy conversation with my vet yesterday and she told me if kitty refuses to eat it, throw it out.  They can detect if something is different or off far better than we can.  I would try another case.  JMHO

Well, this is weird, but I had just the opposite experience yesterday.  My cats eat a few other Wellness flavors but usually don't like the plain chicken.  Every once in awhile, I buy a can of a flavor they have rejected in the past, just to see if anything has changed.  Last week I bought a can of the chicken variety; the numbers on the bottom of the can (3 oz.) are as follows:

best by 11 Apr 10
7WCCC1  1550

They ate it and they never would before!
