Just wanted to find out if anyone else has had any problems with this food. My Golden Retriever has been on NB potato and duck since 2003 and I'v never had a problem. Approx. 2-3 months ago my usually happy boy seemed to become more depressed and did not want to play much with his toys or be part of the family. We thought at that time that it may have had something to do with our new additon, our little baby boy. We still tried to include Barclay (our Golden boy) into everything. Not much has changed for him, walks are the same, playing in the yard, belly rubs , hugs, you name it.

After the recall of the dry venison and pea formula I decided to change foods. About a little over a week ago I started to mix Innova Adult with the NB Potato and Duck Formula. For 2 days now he has been only eating Innova Adult. My lately so depressed dog all a sudden has changed back to my old boy. He is happy again. He loves to play with his toys, wakes us up in the morning and wants to be part of the family again.  Now is it just me, or could there also be a problem with the Potato and Duck Formula?

Has anyone else had similar problems?

Hi, I m glad your dog is feeling better. My little Westie was on the duck and potato, the vegetarian, and the venison with rice over a 2 year period. I m noticing the depression, lack of energy, and lethargy.  He was checked out but I know my dog. I just want to tell everyone if one item from a company like Natural Balance was recalled, the whole line stinks in my opinion.  My dog was also on some of the contaminated canned stuff as well.  Now he is doing pretty well on Cal.Natural Herring and Sweet Potato with my own home cooking of organic veggies, meat, and brown rice.   Best, Mia2

Mia,
I am so glad that your dog is also doing better! It is so scary when you know that something isn't right but you can't figure out what is really wrong. I already thought I was just seeing things, but since we switched Barclay to Innova, even my husband noticed the changes (just within a couple of days). I wish we could send his old food out for testing somewhere. Does anybody know if there is such a thing? I still have half a bag left of the NB Duck and Potato and I would really like to know what is in this food that did not agree with him.

I'm glad to know that your dogs are doing better!

Just to comment -- I know someone who has used Natural Balance Potato and Duck for years, and lately her dogs have stopped eating it. They act fine other than that, but they refuse to eat the kibble, regardless of the meat that's mixed with it.

I had one of my girls on Natural Balance Duck and Potato, because she has allergies. She ate it fine and lately has refused to eat it. I ordered some Life's Abudance dry dog food, and put it side by side with the Natural Balance. She eats the Life's Abundance, but leaves the Natural Balance. Puzzling because she initially at the Natural Balance just fine. This latest batch, she doesn't eat. I am sad about it because here eyes cleared up after I put her on Natural Balance. Her eyes are not as clear on the Life's Abundance (which is considered a premium dog food).

I honestly don't know what to do anymore, except that I think I am going to go with her instincts and feed her Life's Abundance, until we find out what is going on here.

I m so sorry about your dog!  My own Westie had improved for a bit but the Vet thinks the infection and allergies triggered by the tainted food are worse. He is on a stronger med but I have no choice but to do it.  My own dog quit eating it around the time of the recall and he was on all of the NB flavors.... its depressing.. Mia2

I think you are very wise to go with their instincts.  Their sense of smell and taste is so much more fine tuned than ours.
I have some NB Duck and Potato that I bought when the recalls started, but never fed it, was waiting to see if I ever could feed it.

Hope everyone's babies are okay.

I have basically stopped feeding as much kibble to my still ailing Westie, NIk. I feed him more home cooked organic meat /chicken , and some vegs. I have cut back on the rice I give him.  He is still on 3 very expensive meds as well as Pred, and naturally has gained weight. Listen to your pets' refusal to eat the commercial crud.... they have a higher instinct! Mia2 ( yes,  I fed NB for over 2 yrs!)

I don't think this can be overstated, so I'm posting it again in agreement.

I am so surprised that informed pet parents would even consider otherwise.

Absolutely!
Does anyone recall back in late 2005, the Diamond Food recall?? Many of those dogs that died were proded into eating their kibble...when they refused it. Others were refusing the kibble and stealing people food off the counters because they were starving.

Letting the animal lead you keeps the odds in your (plural) favor.
