I opened up a can of NB Duck And Gree Pea this morning and look what I found!

Proceeded to open two other cans and they are just as MOLDY. I contacted NB and spoke to customer service and they will pass this info to QC.

Anyone else having this problem with their NB Duck and Green Pea? The other cans of Ultra and Indoor Formula are fine. Bought them all from my local Petco.

My previous dog wouldn't touch this stuff with a 50' pole and I didn't like the look of the food when I had purchased it and opened the can years ago. It was a no go then and still is. Now its moldy - gawd who cans for them anyway? Problem at the production plant or what?

That's disgusting.  Did the lids look properly sealed?  If it were my cans, I'd be reporting it to the FDA.  They're the ones supposedly in charge of pet food.  Pass it along to QC?  That's all?  QC should be contacting you.

ETA:  Doesn't menu do their canning?  I'll check the dates on my Duck and green pea cans.

ETA:  American Nutrition at time of 2007 recalls.  Don't know who cans now or if it is still ANI.

This looks pretty serious tuttibella wrap those cans tightly as they are with clear wrap and put them in your fridge do not return it. And I agree this should be reported to the FDA with pics attached.

Best Before : Feb 02 2012 Huh I don't think so.

It is disgusting really .... I am heading to Petco later this evening to return the whole case that I bought, along with the three opened cans. Petco insist that I return the opened cans so they can check them and see for themselves how yucky they are.

JustMe : Yes, the lids are properly sealed and I did not move the food anywhere else, as the customer service rep suggested. She told me that it could be due to improper storage but I told her that I've always stored it in my kitchen cabinet and away from sunlight. Then she said that it could be the store (Petco) that did not properly store their products.

My cans are older ones expiring in 2011.  Probably be better off securely wrapping and storing in freezer as they will only degrade further in refrigerator and you don't want mold spreading in your refrigerator.

That is some kind of black mold as of right now and is not identified.

Not to be taken lightly.

Hmmm...any suggestion as to what I should do if I am not returning them to Petco? How do one send stuff over to the FDA anyway?

call your FDA complaint coordiator  http://www.fda.gov/opacom/backgrounders/complain.Html

Don't take them back   FDA will let you know what to do!  They may want them!

NO NO NO NO!!!! save those three opened cans with mold. We will reimburse you if it comes down to it. No doubt you'll be refunded but don't make a move yet. The whole case is probably contaminated.

Can we e-mail the FDA with these pics and dates before Petco sweeps this under the rug in a panic?  Natural Balance really needs to get on the ball here also. This contamination could be extensive.

I called and reached voicemail. Left a message and lets see if they will return my call.

If there are more people having the same problem, they should really step up and let us know so we can determine if this is widespread. Can you guys pass along this info and see if there are any others?

I wouldn't be surprised. Menu's been bragging about profits being up recently. No doubt the result of "cutting costs" all across the board.
