Midwestern Feeds who make Pro Pac make a good product. The puppy food does have corn, it is not imported. I have fed both Pro Pac senior dog food and cat food, my cats do well on it.

I am feeding Halo's Spot's Stew and California Natural Canned. Natura is testing all their foods for Melamine and Cyanuric acid so I am not too scared to feed their foods to my kitty even though they are made by menu foods. They are made at the s dakota plant where I heard there has been no recalls there.

To follow up on my previous posts, after more research with the Pet Food List and calling local stores, I am now feeding (in addition the Artemis and Felidae, which they sometimes like and sometimes reject) Weruva, some of the Merrick flavors, and Solid Gold (only Blended Tuna, the other flavor they carried has rice flour.)
I am avoiding any Weruva flavors with corn flour (or other grains except whole ones) and they do go into detail on their website about testing, quality, etc. Although it is made in Thailand, I decided there was no particular reason to worry about food made in Asia as long as the manufacturer is careful and the ingredients are good (just my opinion.) This brand uses primarily fish and seafood, of course no by-products or garbage like that.
As far as Merrick, people have been concerned about their owning a rendering plant - at first I tried only the Sea Breeze flavor, which has no meat or poultry - just fish and vegetables. Then I decided that I don't mind poultry either, since I essentially "render" chicken when I make chicken soup. Maybe iin theory they can use bad quality chicken, but I have to say my cats love this stuff! It even smells pretty good to me, to be honest. They have a lot of flavors with only fish or seafood for protein, anyway.
Evanger's was not well received, but I'm hoping they will take to it eventually. For dried variety, I am giving them California Naturals (chicken/rice flavor) which they all love.
I am thrilled I finally have some food I trust, although you can tell that I'm not 100% convinced - to some extent I am weary to the bone of worrying that I'm killing my cats every time I open a can. I just had to make some small compromises since they wouldn't eat the foods I was most certain of (including my home-made.) Most importantly, they all seem to be quite healthy other than pre-existing problems which are unlikely to be food-related. I feel lucky in that respect.

Naomi D: Have you considered using the Felines Pride Raw food? It's worth a try. My cat absolutely loves it. Suprisingly, he does not like the chicken, but loves the turkey and the cornish hens even more. I feel so much better not having to try and find a commercial cat food that is safe.

Still on the 18 lb of Chicken Soup Adult Cat Formula purchased at beginning of April. 1/3 cup a day. Boys get Innova mixed with a little Felidae - abo 1/3 cup a day. Baby Girl gets Felidae mixed with a little Innova (or not) - abo 1/3 cup a day. She sometimes gets less kibble - since she is 14.

Pet food used to be so fun. I would purchase new brands, give my sister & boyfriend cans . Now its no fun. Its even more serious business than finging good nutrition. Used to use Petguard, but stopped too, because they are'nt telling WHere they make it. Why wont they tell us? Am gonna try to get ahold of some of the raw companies. They maybe care more about our fears for our animals. I like the way Cal Nat tries to reassure us by doing much testing.

Using Evangers, likes holistic pheasant (will eat it when first opened but not out of refrig not even if heated!); Newman's Organic can; Purina ProPlan can--only those without wheat gluten); Brandon Farms can; and Trader Joe's can (but not the cheaper fish variety). Will NOT use PetGuard--terrible customer service and lack of concern over giving info on their products; Did not like Pet Promise; No more Natural Balance.

I'm still feeding the grain-free wellness varieties I started after the recalls occurred. Also, Fancy Feast (without wheat gluten). I tried Spot's Stew. Only one cat devoured it, really liked it. The other 8 refused to eat it. When I opened the can, the food had a metallic smell to it. Ordered some Evo to try.

Have a look at petpromiseinc.com I started using the wet and dry in April. Some of my cats like it, but now a days it is scarry to suggest anything. It can't hurt to read the ingredients of the canned food. The dry food contains menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vit K), so I am also using Wellness dry now - phasing out the Pet Promise Dry perhaps. This same ingredient is in Fancy Feast Wet, and it will probably be impossible for me to phase FF wet out of my kids diet.

I use stuff from Natura and Spot's Stew. I am using Innova canned food and dry. California canned and Dry. And Spot's Stew canned. Right now my kitty is doing well. He is doing well with Innova canned and dry and Spot's Stew canned and California natural dry. I am not sure about the california natural wet. He had some vomiting. I will have to try that one again and see if he can tolerate it.

Crystal, I am happy to hear that both you and your kitty are doing well. If I were you I would just forget about the California wet for your kid. Not worth making him ill again if there is something in it he cannot tolerate.

You could try Evanger's. They have an Organic Turkey with Butternut Squash flavor that's grain-free and organic. Seems to be well-received by my sister's cats.
It does have menadione sodium bisulfite complex (the controversial vitamin K source)in it though, so if that bothers you, cross it off your list...
They are using up the old labels supposedly so would give them a call to verify that they have stopped putting in the menadione sodium bisulfite as they said they stopped doing this.

Since I don't use Evanger's (just stuff from their cannery) - has anyone tried to steam off a label (or some other such trick) to see if there is a date code on the label? That would put the rest to the suppositions.
