I would really appreciate if those still feeding Wellness canned to their cats could help me. I have used Wellness canned for a long time, but the Menu connection scares the heck out of me. I spent a lot of money and tried very hard to get my calico girls to eat a different canned. I tried Evangers, Artemis, Solid Gold, Felidae. They absolutely refuse it, even if I mix it with the Wellness. They don't like "people food", so I don't think home cooking or raw is an option. Although I do think I will try it at a later date, I just can't right now (I am recovering from surgery).
I am nearly out of the Wellness cans I was using before the recalls (I had several cases, different flavors), I assume these were safe, they have eaten them for months and I took both in recently for bloodwork and all was normal.
I ordered new cases (there is no store local to buy it), of course they are different lot numbers, newer expiration dates then the cases I have been using and but I am scared to use them.

If those still using the Wellness could PLEASE take a moment and post here the expiration dates and code numbers on the bottom of the cans they are using, along with the can size and flavor (I have both 3 oz. and 5.5 oz. here, different flavors), I would appreciate it more than you know.

We could help each other, and hopefully determine if it's "safe". And for those of you who are able to buy locally, you can know what lots to look for.

I'll start- The cans I have been using that are almost gone (again, both my girls went in for bloodwork, so I can assume these lots are okay) are:

  • 3 oz. turkey- ex. date 24 NOV 09, code: 7WTKC1 0128 ( I believe these last 4 digits are a time stamp and are different on each can)
  • 3 oz. chicken- ex. date 23 OCT 09, code: 7WCCC1 1620
  • 3 oz. chicken- ex. date 24 NOV 09, code: 7WCCC1 0620
  • 3 oz. chicken & herring- ex. date 27 OCT 09, code: 7WCH1 0033
  • 3 oz. sardine, shrimp & crab- ex. date 16 APR 08, code: 7WSSC1 0014
  • 5.5 oz. turkey- ex. date 18 JAN 09, code: 7WTKS4 1845

  • 5.5 oz chicken- ex. date 18 JAN 09, code: 7WCCS4 1150

It's horrible it's come to this, afraid to open a new can, some of our pet food is poison, I don't believe the general public realizes how bad the situation is and all the news programs seems to care about is Paris Hilton! I didn't hear one news show mention the acetaminophen that has now been found in pet foods. How sad.

Again, thanks in advance for your help-
Anabelle Lee, Katie Ann and their person, Shelly

Great idea.  I've only been feeding Wellness for a few months.  I will try and come back and update my post as the cats finish each case.  It would be nice if we could check back on a weekly basis and say how are kitties are doing.  Mine are doing fine so far (knock on wood).  I have to order them, too, as nobody locally carries the big cans I need.

All mine are cases of 12.5 ounce cans (12 cans to the case)

Full cases already fed:

Chicken & Herring:
17 APR 10
7WCHS1  18:08

19 JAN 09
7WCHS1  05:13
--------------------
Turkey & Salmon
17 APR 10
7WTSS1   23:32
-----------------
Turkey
11 OCT 09
7WTKS1  18:32

11 OCT 09
7WTKS1  18:27

17 APR 10
7WTKS1  21:59
------------------
Chicken
09 MAR 10
7WCCS1  07:42

These have different code styles than the above.

I just noticed a very interesting discussion over at the pet food list forum, talking about Wellness, some long term users, and some with older cats, even ones with CRF.  Makes me feel even more comfortable with my choice of feeding Wellness to my cats.

I've been feeding canned Wellness for about 4 years.  My cat had bloodwork done in April as part of his yearly exam because I was so paranoid.  All kidney levels, along with everything else was normal.

This is was what I"m feeding now.  He will only eat the chicken flavor.

Currently feeding (turkey & Turkey/salmon are the main ones they eat - others are rotated in from time to time):

*  Turkey & Salmon:    7WTSC1    13 Apr 10
*  Turkey:                 7WTKC1     11 Apr 10
*  Chicken:                7WCCC1     11 Apr 10
*  Chicken & Herring    7WCHC1     02 May 10

Did have vomiting from one cat within 30 minutes of eating Beef/Salmon (other cat had icky but next day - long haired) but I think I rotated it too fast on them and they have not had any beef for several weeks:
*  7WBSC1    07 Mar 10

Just me - as a note on my earlier post have listed in your summary. Two of my cats finished off the cases that were reported by me at the time.  The IBD cat is not eating Wellness at all any more.  Believe there was a food intolerance issue for him.

Kittymom,
What size cans are those? I'm just curious as that's the exact same lot code as the ones that Anabelle & Katie's cats wouldn't eat. Her's were 3 oz cans.

It makes me feel better to know that your kitties are eating from that production without any issue. It makes me think that there may be something just a little different with those cans that made her cats not want it, which can happen with foods that aren't chemically preserved...especially since cats have such sensitive noses.

Kittymom,
Thank you for letting me know. You may want to post in Anabelle & Katie's post concerning this same thing:

I'm getting a little confused - there are several Wellness threads.  I'm afraid to feed my cats anything quite frankly.  I chose Wellness because it was recommended by Dr. Peirson's website.  I wanted to try raw, but to ship it to HI was $120.

Sofia,
Have your cats had any problems with the Wellness turkey?

No, actually everyone ate and enjoyed the Turkey Formula.  Maybe it has something to do with the Salmon because that was the first time they've had a fish flavor.

Sofia,
I'm glad to hear they are did well with the turkey. Why did you not post that in the Wellness canned topic in the cat foods forum?

Anyway, the beef and salmon is a new flavor, and I haven't heard much of anything about it, so your post made me wonder.
