I know I read somewhere on here there were problems with Fancy Feast not being cooked in the middle of the can,  I had this with both Fancy Feast and Friskies.  In fact I stopped opening the Friskies cans and then it showed up in the Fancy Feast and I went to Purina website and asked for a response.

This is in part what they said

we suspect what you observed was some of the
"vitamin pre-mix" or color enhancer that had not been thoroughly blended
into the rest of the ingredients.  The vitamins and minerals are combined
into a mixture and added along with a color enhancer to the other
ingredients before the product is cooked.

Does that sound right to anyone?  What I saw was right in the middle of the can.

They want me to send them an unopened can with the same lot number.  I've had about 10 cans like this, not one lot number or even one flavor.

In return they are sending me COUPONS, freaking coupons to restore my confidence in their product.  How about offering me a refund.

If you get an email and it doesn't have a person's name on it do you assume it was computer generated?  This did not have a person's name.

Anyone else have this problem or did I imagine that I saw it here?

Judy -
I use Fancy Feast, but have not noticed this problem.  The cans I am currently using are Oct. and Nov. 2009 use by dates, and are some of the non-gluten varieties.  If I see something like that I will make a note of the lot numbers.
I do think someone posted a similar problem, but would have to look for it.

Judy -
I found that BW posted a similar problem here on page 3 of this thread about half-way down.

Maybe someone could post of photo if possible.   I see pinkish blobs sometimes in several different brands.

Does it look anything like this photo?  The pink pieces?  This is not F or FF.

It's NOT Fancy Feast and it's not Friskies.  Just trying to figure out what the pink in food people have posted about looks like.  It smells pretty good actually for cat food, but I'm not eating it.  My cats love it.  Wink

Thanks for the picture, JustMe.  I too have seen pinker blobs like those in the picture in some canned foods, several different brands/varieties.  After "dissecting" them thoroughly when I first saw them, I concluded that they are blobs of congealed juices.   The ones in my cans would melt down if rubbed in my warm fingers for a few minutes. Like the lighter-colored blobs, they seem to be more fatty and the cats relish them particularly.  Mine are all brands that use no artificial colors.  I think I have noted the pink ones more in foods with beef or lamb; chicken/turkey foods seem to have tan or whitish blobs.

Not sure if this is the same thing that Judy found in FF.  I don't use that.

Just me that is not it, I am familar with those blobs eck they look less attractive in a picture.  What I am talking about is in the very middle of the can  in fact dead center.  If you dump the whole can on a plate and cut in half the middle looks wierd.  If it wasn't right in the center I would be less concerned but it does look like it is not cooked through.

In the meantime I have resorted to using 9 Lives canned.  I guess I will have to order some food online since she is not eating the Newmans or the Wellness I have on hand.

. . . since she is not eating the Newmans or the Wellness I have on hand.

That's probably why the hospital vets gave her  a different food to eat than the food  that you had sent with her. What do think?

How are Socks and you coping now?

If you're cats are used to FF, that may be why they don't want the Newman's or Wellness. I've heard that FF is basically kitty crack with artificial "flavor-isers" that hook cats. Since Newman's and Wellness neither have artificial flavor enhancers, that maybe why.

Those pink blobs look exactly like the pink blobs that form on my dogs' hamburger "loaf" that I bake in the oven.  They squooze up from inside the meat mass & sit on top.  I've seen white ones form on the chicken I bake for the cats too.  They must just be fats & juices & gelatins that glom up through the meat during the cooking process & congeal on the surface when cooled.  Yummm.

They do cook some of these foods in the can so maybe they didn't get them hot enough to cook all the way through.  More yummm.

That is what I take them for.  Remind me of meatloaf juices oozing to the top.

That is why I wanted to differentiate to understand what is being talked about here.

Judy,

Is it RED or PINK inside?

I'll have to open another can and check tonight or maybe I will get lucky and it will be a good can.

Erick she was eating all three brands but she has some eating issues and doesn't always eat the same thing.  That's why I have cans of cat food sitting all over the kitchen floor.

I more than understand the "cans of cat food sitting all over". It looks like that at my house too. Smiley
