Have just found more re: WT:

T
So the problem is, as we thought, not limited to W-M or to PingYang Pet/Bestros.

Now let's see how sharp you are--see if you know who posted this:

http://petfoodtracker.blogspot.com/2007/08/fda-testing-dog-treats-more-deaths.html#comment-4611781483042664772

Uh-Huh--the C-N Crisis Manager Stern--posted the day after he and Bernstein started the WT blog and cluttered the internet with the 2 press releases saying there's nothing wrong with WT.  Guess he thinks that posting them to PetFoodTracker makes them credible.  BTW--these 2 news releases are the e-mail "replies" received by the blogger above when she attempted to contact WT/ADIPet about the obviously moldy WT chicken jerky strips shown in her photos.

What I especially love is that he's posting this on legitimate PF blogs but when you go to the WT "blog", it's closed to comments from everyone but Stern, Bernstein, & Company.  If these 2 press releases were true, there would be no need to have the blog closed to outside comments; what they don't say and/or won't let others say says a LOT!

All mouthpieces and importers of food products should be forced to eat them for a given period of time before either pitching or selling them to the public.  We'd certainly be well rid of many who ail us.

I couldn't agree more with your last comment!

As I mention on the posts you've referred to I've got a lot more reports of illnesses and deaths from jerky treats than are listed... I'll be adding more tomorrow, along with some updated info...

And btw, Steve posted his same comment on another post, it's here.
http://petfoodtracker.blogspot.com/2007/08/many-online-reports-of-non-recalled-dog.html#comment-6553822000162347620

I replied and told him what I thought of his comments, he hasn't responded. Go figure.

The August 2007 Oasis reports are on the FDA web site. One of the things held was chicken strips from jugiang huaheng(sp.) leather and plastic factory. reason salmonella. There were several dog treats for salmonella .  Also gravy train (with no american company name) was held for unsafe color, and color labeling. This product had a skew number of Sku 91536, this was 3 different holds. There were also 21 varietys of wheat gluten held for several reasons , on safe cans (I think Toxic cans), some had unsafe ingredients , some poisons. There were 2 things on soy products for same reasons.

Thanks for posting this.  There was also Poultry Meal from Canada held for Salmonella.

And that company that did the chicken strips - JIUJIANG HUAHENG LEATHER & PLASTIC CO. - isn't one that's been mentioned yet. Wonder who they make chicken strips for...  guess it's detective time again.

Again, a mix of human & animal food grade.

We can easily guess what the "additives" are---note that many of them are trying to evade the system by shipping to ports like Los Angeles and Chicago instead of the usual Seattle for Asian cargo.

Kim,

It's apparent that he's unable to respond credibly.  All he and Bernstein have are those 2 news releases which are many, many light years away from reality.  We saw this in the C-N affair too. Believe it was Hitler who once said something to the effect of: "If you tell the lie long enough, it will be believed." Note that AH at least admitted that it was a lie.

menusux,

Sheesh!  I hope you have this list posted elsewhere on the forum.  This is obscene.   Angry

JustMe,

I'm now on my way to the train.  If you wouldn't mind suggesting where the OASIS list would "fit" elsewhere on Forum, I'll be glad to repost it there when I get back this afternoon.

I think "Grvy Train" may be a Chinese knock-off of the US brand--will be able to look all of these folks up after I get back later.

Did manage to see that the Chinese government has NOT yet pulled the plug on Shandong Sinoglory, who offered us the poisonous soy protein; their website (which I'll give URL for later), is still up & running......

I can't believe the amount of "vital wheat gluten" refused for unsafe additives and filthy poisonous.  And all the pet treats.  I am going to print the August report and take it to the PBS meeting tomorrow. What do they say? Less than 1% of the goods are inspected.  And it seems like we're getting an upsurge of kidney disease again.  These companies just don't get it.  Profits over problem solving.

menusux,

How about making a new post in News Recall Related in addition to the list you posted here?  MrsP already has the FDA Refusal list for July posted there.  Maybe a new thread for the  August list (unless there already is one somewhere)?  or add to MrsP's thread?  We should probably make a new thread for each month if somebody is looking these up every month.  Would be nice to have them in one place.  Just an idea.

Menusux Thanks for posting the list in its entirety my old computer doesn't allow it.  I wasn't sure if some of the snacks were human or animal .

If the companys use the skews that are already on the product we maybe able to tell whose gravy train that is. I am going to check when I am in the store today.

Been reading on those links that menusux provided:  OMG......just about everyone I know with a dog has been feeding those chicken strips.  Dogs just go nuts for them.  How sad somebody in the US didn't seize this opportunity & make SAFE chicken jerky strips.  I did buy Plato chicken strips & Hannah likes them but I don't think anything can compare with that chicken jerky......however, it won't be in this house again.

Isn't Gravy Train a brand name for dry dog food or am I dating myself?  I thought I remembered that name.  Is this the same as Nutro......why is it coming INTO the US?  I sure wish we could figure out just what the hell is going on.

Also notice all the dog treats/rawhide that was stopped.  I think we all know enough now not to feed any kind of dog treats from China but this just reinforces it.

I understand we have some kind of agreement with China for importing their crappy stuff but why, with all the recalls & gross stuff coming into this country, can't they at least put a STOP on imports from China as a temporary measure to protect the people & pets of this country?  If nothing was allowed to come into this country until China cleans up their act, I would think that MIGHT make a difference.  Or am I talking out my you-know-what?  As in.....big business continues to make money & screw the people & pets of the US....... I was in a local dollar store today and found they are selling gravy train  pork sticks manufactured in China for Delmonte. I chected the skews and they did not match the one for the OASIS reorts.

Just me I hope you do move this and all the posts connected to menusux and my old one so we can keep things in a little more order.

No, I didn't want menusux to move the OASIS report.  I was asking if menusux could COPY it somewhere else so we have record in another forum.  I was thinking, not everybody is going to check this particular thread.

Am on my way to copy the August OASIS to News-Recall Related.  Offy, there's more than 1 way to read OASIS--you can look at it by the Country of Origin (in this case it would be China) or by the Industry the product relates to.

Here's a link for the OASIS landing page:

http://www.fda.gov/ora/oasis/ora_oasis_ref.html

Here are the refusals by Country:

http://www.fda.gov/ora/oasis/ora_ref_cntry.html

Here are refusals by Industry/Product:

http://www.fda.gov/ora/oasis/ora_ref_prod.html

When you go by Industry/Product, you'll see various types of headings and codes--72--is Pet/Laboratory Animal Food.  This is where the 72 is coming from in those listings.  And when you look at it separated by industry/product, this is how you can tell that some of that wheat gluten and soy protein was NOT earmarked for animal food.

You'll see that the Sticky Paws exported by Pingyang Pet Leather arrived at the port of Chicago--CHI--and that the Lamb & Rice Rawhide Compressed Bone from Everfun Pet arrived at the port of Seattle--SEA.  The Basted Rawhide Bone from Zhejiang Haiyue arrived at the port of Los Angeles--LOS.

The Import Alerts or FIARS also change--many have been recently updated.  These are the ones which detain without inspection the vegetable proteins like wheat gluten, etc., due to possible melamine contamination and the pet treats for the possibility of salmonella.  If you guys want (and can think of a good place for them to be posted), I'll do that for you tomorrow.  Both the vegetable protein and salmonella FIARS Import Alerts have been updated in less than 2 weeks.  Import Alerts/FIARS sometimes lists names of offenders, as we saw on the salmonella detention list.

Also found something I'll try posting somewhere on the Forum tomorrow--am hoping the link will work because the link is an Excel file.  It's a list from May of this year from a Chinese government website with all the names of pet food makers in China who would like to export to Europe. Grabbed it in HTML via Google cached page.

Here's a link to a Google Language Tools Beta Chinese to English translated page.  This is some sort of Chinese Message Board--it may be connected with the Chinese government.  They've posted the list of all FDA OASIS refused products for August there:

http://tinyurl.com/26wkhy

Title: [notice] risk warning: in 2007 by the United States FDA refused entry list of food companies (there are 265 in August blacklist)

The person who made the reply post really looks like part of the Chinese government:

Snoopy9095 Rookie road
UID 86655 The essence 0 12 Integral 12 11 Articles 11
32 Grain coupons 32 10 Read the authority 10
2007-9-4 Registration 2007-9-4
Food industry professionals state

"It seems increasingly bad food safety control.
The growing need to control!
Worries!  !  ! "

So you see while Itchmo is banned, they are all able to read FDA OASIS and keep score.   Roll Eyes

We have another made in China Chicken Tenders treat brand name with illness reports:

http://forums.ebay.com/db1/thread.jspa?threadID=2000431810&tstart=0&mod=1189457974127

Date of Post is September 10, 2007

"I am relaying this from my pet sitter, she asked that I pass it along to all my animal loving freinds. The names have been deleted unless pertinent.

"Product - Smoke House Chicken Breast Tenders Treats

"A dog became suddenly ill ,and is now hospitalized with her life threatened due to Smoke House Chicken Tenders that were recently purchased at Pet Smart.

"This was the first time purchase of Smoke House treats. Having read the label, it was listed as all natural, no additives, dyes etc. The treats were purchased on or about August 17. By August 23 she vomited and again on August 24. Her personality began to change becoming lethargic, wanting to stay in her bed, loss of appetite. excessive drinking, urinating frequently in excessive amounts. Her urine became orange like in color. By August 28 she was severely dehydrated and lost one of her three pounds.

"Sugar was found in her urine which would typically indicate diabetes. She was put on IV and given an antibiotic to take while tests were being done over Labor Day weekend.

"Test results showed "irregularity in the lower part of her kidney. Possibly a hole in the kidney because of the malfunction. By Sept 7, she was low on energy and disinterested in being around anyone.

"The wonderful vet, a graduate of Cornell University searched the Cornell Veterinarian site where veterinarians report unusual cases which are tracked. The search was done by symptoms. A second search by chicken treats.

"There were numerous cases on the Cornell University Veterinarian web site, all with the same symptoms, test results and yes, related to chicken tender treats made in China. When Dr. didn't find complete listing of ingredients on the package he called the number listed on the back of the package identifying himself and asked for ingredients to help understand what was happening to the dog. The only thing the person on the phone with a strong Chinese accent said was "all natural, all natural". Sure enough looking at the small print on the bottom back of the package is "product of China", the same source of other products that have been killing our pets.

"The Cornell database offered these answers

"-severe damage to the kidney often resulting in complete renal failure and death
-numerous reports in the past four to five weeks, a larger number on the East Coast
- chicken and beef treats promoted as all natural
-it does not matter what the label is, if it is a product of China
-if caught early enough, hospitalized on IV hydrating and flushing the kidney over days with nutrients may help the kidney heal itself and the pet could then live with the damaged kidney
-if not caught early complete renal failure is expected
-most cases reported are related to small dogs
-initial symptoms indicate diabetes
-mold is often found when flushing the kidney
Today a vet at Cornell purchased a bag after reading the report my Vet posted. He then contacted my vet to say the bag he bought had mold in it despite an expiration date one year from now.
After the dog was admitted to the vetthe owner went directly to Pet Smart in Nanuet NY, told the Manager what happened and asked her to assist getting the ingredients identified. The person at PS headquarters responsible for knowing food ingredients at Pet Smart headquarters is trying to help.

"No one seems to be aware of this. Dogs are being misdiagnosed and many websites and store are still selling this product! If it is available in your pet store, make the owner or manager aware that this is potentialy a hazardous food item.

"Fell free to pass this information along to any pet related sites."

Please note that PS is NOT the only place this brand is sold--you can find it at other pet stores on or off the internet--they are, like WT, et. al., sold also on eBay.

menusux thx for that list on the smokehouse treats. I have a bag of turkey breast from the same company but bag states Made In U.S.A. Also noted on bag is a round small label attached to bag that says: "Treated with Radiation for your Safety" WTF? Now its radiated food? Bad enough its making pets deathly sick from the other treats. Needless to say this bag is going back to the store tomorrow. Glad they at least let you know it is radiated. Missed that lil label when I bought it. Was so glad found another treat made in usa but lo and behold they had to screw with this food too. Such a shame it has to be this way.
