US Pet Food/Treat Distributor told Chinese Supplier to add Melamine

US pet owners have believed that Chinese companies are solely to blame in the numerous cases of tainted pet foods over the last several years.  New information provided to TruthaboutPetFood.com tells a slightly different story.  It has been reported that one US pet food and pet treat distributor instructed a Chinese manufacturer to add melamine to dog treats.

Very interesting article.  I wonder if the Chinese guy is telling the truth.  One thing is for sure--someone, somewhere, isn't, and it's innocent pets who pay the price. Angry

Lawsuit risks apply to this forum, as well.  There will be no posting of alleged company names on this forum until and if the FDA announces.

Golly jeepers - when I said I wondered how much plastic was in these treats - lo and behold - voila! Plenty from what the place who produced the stuff was told to do. Would like to know if this company made treats for any other companies - no matter who they are. We thought the plastic nightmare was going to straighten itself out and now putting plastic in on PURPOSE!

Notes from Red Barn website re: Chewy Louie (Chinese) Chicken Jerky:

http://itchmoforums.com/your-problems-with-pet-food/beware-food-packaging-from-china-t3428.0.html;msg43116#msg43116

Packaging is Chinese and so are the treats.  At one time they were doing business with the "Peidi Gang", who has a history of melamine and salmonella contaminated exported foods.  The easiest way to show this is to post the link for a search of "Peidi" done on Forums:

http://peidibrand.en.alibaba.com/aboutus.html

Main Customers:  Dingo Brand LLC., PetEdge, RedBarn, Penn-Plax, Armitage, VPG, Hagen, Wilkingson, Friskies, Pet Brand, Master Pet, SunRise

http://www.redbarninc.com/t-about.aspx

"Although Redbarn Chicken Jerky items are manufactured in a Chinese plant, it is visited and inspected annually by the owners of Redbarn. We go to a lot of effort to assure ourselves of the quality of the product coming from this plant. Our Chicken Jerky is processed in a plant in China that has been inspected and approved by the F.D.A and Redbarn has invested in testing protocol that must be met prior to the shipping of any product."

There's more on the page about melamine and salmonella issues, but IMHO, they're still Made In China and because of this, no sale in this house.
