LOL Petslave, I dont know that there was a problem with Blue Seal Brandon Farms 95% meat wet cat food......I think someone had asked if anyone had used it and I just wanted to point out that I know that is canned or at least was being canned by Evangers as of April 2008.  I had e:mailed them to find out was their manufacturer.  I do remember seeing some hulls in one can I opened but it was only one can and it looked like rice to me (altho its not supposed to have rice in it).  Sophers wouldnt eat it so thats as far as we went with it especially once I learned of LeslieK's problem with Evangers and then saw their intimidating posts here and at other places on the internet thingy....

JJ, since By Nature is a Blue Seal product, I suppose its possible it is also canned at Evangers, I dont know if Blue Seal has Evangers can all their wet food or not....

ETA; Petslave, here is the link talking about Brandon Farms pet food....http://itchmoforums.com/cat-food-experiences-by-brand/brandon-farms-t6013.0.html;msg82256#msg82256  YesBiscuit provided some complete manufacturing info on the various lines of food...

OK, thanks Sandi K, thought you had found excess copper in it and was surprised I didn't read about it.

JJ - are you thinking of the excess copper in lesliek's pet food?  If I remember right, that was dry and that's made in a different plant.  Evanger's only does canned food (although that dry food was their product).  If it's a canned food with excess copper, that's one I didn't hear about - yikes!

petslave I could have sworn someone posted that part of Evangers thing when the FDA stepped in was not following proper mfg. processes? Will have to go and find that on here unless someone else can provide the link for this? Also was not botulism having something to do with Evangers also? Can anyone point to the direction on here about these questions so we can all have a clearer picture. Thx!

Yes, JJ, you're right - the botulism was the concern with the improper canning methods Evanger's was using.  But I thought the excess copper was in the Evanger's pheasant dry food, which is made by a dry food mfr for Evangers.  Maybe there are also canned foods that tested too high too.

In addition the most recent issues with canning problems, their foods (all the brands they make) have always seemed to have odd things in them you don't expect to find in canned pet food.  Bones and skin, plastic, hulls.

Jess loves Brandon Farms wet but I discontinued it when the Evangers problem/connection came about.

There was a poster with copper in the canned cat Evangers also,Elena L. Don't have the link handy but will look for it. The botulism was just a few weeks ago in Canidae cans, also canned at Evangers. I think that was dog cans.

Thanks, lesliek!  That clears that up.  Somehow I totally missed that thread about the cat food, and didn't hear about the Canidae either.  Something isn't right at that plant, obviously, between the extra "goodies" and supplements that our pets are getting in their foods.  Not to mention poor canning practices.

Yes lesliek thanks for that link. For the excess copper I believe that was the thread I was thinking about. I was feeding the canned dog food from there and earlier this year my dog refused 3 different varieties that she had eaten with no problem before. Always wondered if there might be too much copper in the dog food also?

Like petslave said, too many problems with everything they can to take the chance. Not to mention their reaction to anyone with a complaint.
