I had a very interesting phone call today from a Special Agent with the OCI [office of criminal investigations at the FDA]. Apparently Evangers didn't do to well when they were reinspected after their special permit fiasco. Because of the bad inspections it was turned over to the OCI and they are very interested in speaking to anyone who had a problem with Evangers or any food they make for other companies. I told him to check here,at pfpsa and consumer affairs. He knows I am posting about this and hopes people will pm me with their info for contact or to get his. He didn't want me to post his name and # publically. If anyone can think of other websites he should check please let me know.If you are on other sites where people had trouble, please post this there also. Also if any of you are using any food they make, you may want to reconsider continuing it.

I'm glad you posted, lesliek. I was alerted to your post on another forum and that was a warning shot for myself and another forum member who were in the process of special ordering a food Evangers manufactures (thought it was manufactured by Menu). I may have to pay to ship it back, but off it goes!

How about listing any food canned at any Evangers plant that is sold by other companies in this thread. That way it will be handy for reference.

Leslie, there were also complaints at this site, I didnt know if you knew or not so thought I would post the link to it:  http://efoodalert.blogspot.com/2008/04/safety-warning-on-evangers-dog-and-cat.html

I am very glad to see FDA taking an interest in potential problems with pet food & PFC's, I hope to see them continuing to take more interest/action in the future.  Maybe the days of staus quo with the PFC's are coming to an end....all I can do is hope!

Its my understanding that Evangers does the canning for some Blue Seal products also, I dont know if they can all their products but I do know they can some like in this thread:  http://itchmoforums.com/your-problems-with-pet-food/by-nature-organics-problem-t4064.0.html  They also can Brandon Farms 95% meat cat food, I did check awhile back on that, it is a Blue Seal product canned by Evangers.

This comment was left at this blog in late November, 2008:

http://health4uandpets.typepad.com/healthproducts/2008/04/fda-orders-evan.html?cid=140200252#comment-140200252

Quote
Not surprising that the defense comments come right from the firm. Wed of this week, I split a can of beef chunks between my two 10-lb Pomeranians and half an hour later, rushed them to the emergency animal hospital. My animals went through hell; my little guy just got out yesterday afternoon and he still has seizures and can barely walk. Lets connect the dots here; they ate evangers food, and half an hour later, were unable to stand, or even hold up their heads. An hour later, they were both blind and fighting for their lives. 4 calls to Evangers have been unreturned, as well as 2 emails. My roommate called, and was hung up on, yet Joel Sher posted on another site that this didnt happen. Yes, it did happen. No amount of 'blowing this off' by Evangers will negate what happened. The food is on its way to the Univ of Md toxicology lab for testing. Its the ONLY thing they ingested. Like I said earlier, you connect the dots!

The person posting indicates that the problems happened in November; he/she says "Wed of this week, I split a can of beef chunks between my two 10-lb Pomeranians and half an hour later, rushed them to the emergency animal hospital." and the post was made November 23, 2008--quite a while after the emergency operating permit was called for in April 2008.

Here's something else the FDA might want to look at--Evanger's is exported:

http://www.uspetfoodexports.com/brands.cfm

E. Tu Associates-Exporters of Quality Pet Foods & Pet Products:

"E.Tu Associates works with over 30 North American pet products companies. Among the brands we represent are:

"Evanger's is a manufacturer of super premium canned pet foods. Evanger's features their Hand-Packed Specialties line, Super Premium Gold line, Organic line, and 100% Meat & Poultry line. In addition, Evanger's offers complimentary dry foods in Chicken with Brown Rice and Pheasant with Brown Rice formulas. Evanger's also welcomes the opportunity to work with companies to develop private label formulations."

http://www.uspetfoodexports.com/company.cfm

"E. Tu Associates was founded in 1982 with the goal of helping companies in the Cincinnati region expand their sales to Asian countries. Over the course of time, our mission has narrowed to a focus on the export of pet foods and pet products from North America to markets around the world.

"E. Tu Associates currently works with about thirty different manufacturers of pet foods and pet products allowing us to offer a full range of products to importers and distributors worldwide.

"For North American manufacturers, E. Tu Associates develops and manages export markets. We also work with manufacturers to create successful global strategies.

"For overseas importers, we offer products to meet specific market needs. E. Tu Associates can also source products, lines, and brands from North American manufacturers.

"E. Tu Associates also works with American importers helping them to source new items, negotiate pricing, oversee import logistics, and implement import programs."

Sales    Certification
International Strategies    Registration
Logistics    Branding
Distribution    Private Labeling

"...if it is related to the export or import of pet foods and pet products, E. Tu Associates has the experience and expertise to help you accomplish your goals."

The quote from the site menusux mentioned is from the same lady who posted on the site Sandi mentioned in her post.  I am not disbelieving her story, but, since she had the food tested, it would be helpful if she could have followed up with the results of that test.    Undecided

This is my email back 2/24/09 when I emailed Dave's asking who made their food and what tests they do....Dave Ratner answered me with this..and my email told him I was sharing his answer unless he said no...

hi there,
thanks for picking up the food.  the delectable dinner loaf type is made by evangers, the 95 venison is made by menu,  in the next couple of weeks there will be 2 more 95% meats at critter hut made by evangers, a 95 chicken and a 95 beef.  Why two different manufacturers?  good question.  because they each do certain things really well.  yup, that Chinese stuff was pretty nasty.
the only good news, if there is such a thing is that now there is finally such an uproar over what happened that protocals and new testing are in place.  too bad they weren't in place before!!
please let me know how your babiesdo on the food and if you feel like it, email a pic for us to put on the web site.
thanks so much,
dave

Thanks everyone,I posted at those 2 sites as well as the petfoodlist & emailed petconnection. Will also email Lisa McCormick when I get home. Remember they want to talk to everyone who had trouble, even if it was finding odd things in the food. Test results will help, but they are trying to find out what all the problems have been. I seem to remember posting at 2-3 other sites when company people were denying the FDA order, but am having trouble finding them,if any of you remember or did that also please let me know.
