I'm on the lookout for a good probiotic to give to Kaffe... preferably one with digestive enzymes with it?  All suggestions (especially based on experience) most welcome.  Thanks.

Hi Kaffe,  Fizzy and Scooby get one called Animal essentials Plant Enzymes & Probiotics, for dogs and cats.   I have not vetted the ingredients  Tongue but the label says  "All Natural Digestive Aid"  "Contains a source of live (viable)naturally occurring microorganisms.  Replenishes beneficial bacteria (probiotic) that support digestive flora and enzymes that assist with the breakdown of starches, proteins, triglycerides and fats, and cellulose (plant materials and fiber) in the diet.  Contains no lactose, sugars or preservatives."  Ingredients are Calcium sulfate, dried fermentation products of Aspergillus oryzae var., Aspergillus niger var., Bacillus subtilus var., Trichoderma longibrachiatum, pineapple, Bacillus coagulans.  Refrigerate after opening.

I think this brand is pretty common at the little pet supply shops, not the big boxes.  I sprinkle 1/8 tsp on the wet food twice a day.   I started using this for Scooby when she had the runs from antibiotics and food that she didn't tolerate well.  Cleared it up in a day!  They don't notice it in the food.  I've been using it for about 8 months.  I know there are several products out there, but I've only used this one.  HTH

Hi Kaffe,
I have been using a product called Digest-All Plus for my cat Tig.  We have been using it for about 6 months now to help control her vomiting and loose stools. It contains both digestive enzymes and probiotics.  It seems to have helped her out, but I have also eliminated all dry food and changed her diet to exclude fruits and veggies so I'm not sure which actually helped more.  All I can say is that I still stir this into her food and she doesn't have any more tummy troubles.  More info about this product at the link below.  The ingredients are listed at the bottom of the page.

I have tried Purina FortiFloria with minimal success along with a wide variety of others, both as food additive and treatment for problems. I didn't find one single powder that worked for issues we've had here.

The one I've had the most success with and constant success with for extremely loose stools in Geneva(rb), this product stopped them, and minor issues for the others when I brought them home or with antibiotic treatments, and even for Scooter's swollen lip allergic reation is Vetri-Science Fast Balance-GI.  It consistently worked.

The pitas will voluntarily consume what I give them of this, while hairball formulas are summarily rejected. So there is something about this they found acceptable.

Ling is a scarf & barf and I'll give her a tiny amount to settle her tummy down when she'd done that.

Maybe it has no meaning as far as using it, and maybe it's the foods they eat plus this, but I don't have hairball barfs here and I've tossed the hairball formulas.  I've never seen Scooter or MK barf a hairball after I started using this. Ling's aren't hairballs ( I examine her barfs) but from "inhaling" foods.

It's a bit pricey, but it ended up cheaper using something that worked than all I spent on trying to find products that worked alone or ones they'd actually allow mixed in their foods:

Wow!  Thank you so much everyone for taking time to type up your experiences with various digestive aids... Kaffe barfed up his raw food twice in the past and some of his stools lately have that tale-tell mustard streaks that warn of microflora imbalance.. also, I've caught him licking soil outside... vet says he must be looking for helpful gut bacteria... that maybe his diet is "too clean"  (ha ha ha ha ha)...   so... your suggestions are so very helpful ... I will look up all the products you've listed down and hopefully by Sunday, be ready to order something.

I've used/am using Animal Essentials. I don't give it regularly, just when I notice that stool consistency is softer than it should be, and things return to normal very quickly. My cats rarely throw up, but Sophie and Stefie occasionally get a bit softer stool.

This is of interest to me because I was just looking at probiotic caps in the supplement isle of the food co-op, considering them for my cats & dogs.  Has anyone used any human brands of probiotics for their pets?  Somehow I just feel safer sticking with human-grade supplements right now.

http://www.bluebonnetnutrition.com/acidophilus/milk_free_fos_powder.html

I have been using this for myself and my kitties and I am very pleased with the results. Cheesy
I take the capsule form and I give my critters the powder.
It has to be refrigerated though.

Edited to add:  This product is human grade, and very well screened and tested.
It is also a combination of pre and probiotics.  FOS is the prebiotic

Prozyme is one of the few that is decent in the LABELED for Pets ... I usually use kyo dopholis for the four legs ... Make sure to use a PREBIOTIC to so the Pro s have something in the gut to adhere to ..

I have used several human brands and a few pet ones ... the above have both undergone tests for potency and PASSED Roll Eyes many companies label billions but they are DEAD and useless

The label on Digest-All Plus claims that the ingredients are all organic and human grade, if that helps.  I haven't done the research to find out where each ingredient comes from, but I have not had any problems with the product either.

Thanks, Peg, that looks like a good one.  That line of supplements sounds good - do you order online or get them locally?

this is a good company but I do not see the TESTED for actual live active tests... purity is one thing... I could merely be overlooking it... I like the NO others but silica and those are at my local store Wink
