My cats go away and hide whatever vacuum cleaner I use.  At present, the Hoover in the garage does an OK job, but I have mostly wood floors.

I use the Bissell powerforce bagless vacuum.  It's my second one in about 3 yrs.  It works great, gets up all the pet hair, never loses suction. I paid under $100. for it. It's easy to clean, both the filters and the cannister and you can wash many of the parts.  It also comes with a turbo brush.. that sucker will take paint off the walls!

After reading this forum, I decided to get the dyson for pet fur.  As I was talking to my hushand about it one of his co workers was in the backround listening.  she said she bought one and loves it.  She siad you can't go wrong.  She was right.  It was kinda much, but it'a been picking up dirt way down deep, which I thought was clean.  Thanks .

I just got a new Dyson canister vac.  We have hardwood and carpet and tile and rugs so I wanted one that would work on everything.  So far, so good.  Really picks up the pet hair.  I had just vacuumed the day before with the old vac and I was amazed to see how much dirt and hair I had missed.  No bags to replace and the filter is washable.

I have the Dyson "Animal".

Pretty quiet and does a fantastic job.  Cats are NOT afraid of it either.  I've had it for 3 years, a gift to myself.

What is a good vacuum cleaner for use on carpet to get up very long, silky dog hair?  I know we had a discussion going and remember some of the recommendations, but darned if I can find the thread.  Must be using wrong search terms!  AAR, our old canister vac's hose broke yesterday, and I'm told Hoover no longer has that hose in stock.  We had been getting by w/ duct tape repairs but that time is long gone now.

Am looking at two models made by Sebo, one called Sebo Pet and the other Sebo Felix.  Latter one was recommended by the store today.

DH and I both have asthma and allergies.  Jake has allergies, too.  He carries a long, thick coat.  Started blowing coat at change of seasons and our builder beige carpet turns black between vacuum days.  Looks as if a Bald Eagle swooped in, ate little Jakey-Jake and just spit out the dog hair!  Had plans to take out old carpet and do new flooring but that is currently on hold.

Carolo- The Bissell healthy home is great for pet hair & allergens. Its very heavy though. I have that,a dyson as a 2nd for upstairs & recently got a small kenmore cannister for quick pickups on bare floors.
