Boy am I ever so disappointed in this company.
Actually I am angry.

And embarassed, because I actually recommended this product.   Embarrassed
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3261+1883+8982&pcatid=8982

Last week, I ordered 5 new ones, to replace some that were almost thread bare.
They were delivered to me yesterday.

F&S has a new flat rate shipping on certain items and I did not see it on the catalog.  I placed the order by mail and sent a check, using the chart inside to calculate the shipping.  I calculated $11.99 and the actual shipping was $5.99.  F&S told me the would leave the $6.00 as a credit towards future orders......pretty creepy.

To make matters worse the Cozy Cushion was the worst quality I have ever seen.  If you look at the little insert within the picture of the product, you will see (the picture is actually clearer in the catalog) that the interior warming core is silver covered bubble wrap which is exactly how my older ones are made.

The new ones felt thin and wrong, so I opened one up along the seam and there is a tissue paper thin piece of foil in there and it doesn't even go the entire length and width of the pad!!!  Gracious, the aluminum foil in my kitchen cupboard is thicker than this. Angry

I got on the phone with F&S to voice my displeasure and I was told that my complaint would be referred to quality control and the buyers as well.......these things are now MIC, where as my older ones were made here.  I also told customer service that I wanted my $6.00 returned to me in the form of a check, my original method of payment.

Today I got a call from QC and they told me the pad more than met their satisfaction.
I told them I felt their picture of this pad is a misrepresentation of the product.
They disagree.

I stiched up the pad I opened and mailed them all back for a refund.

Why is it that these companies think we are just a bunch of idiots?
If they are this lax about a nonfood product, I would be really worried about anything edible that comes from that company.

F&S.......you stink IMHO   Tongue

How disappointing! Make sure they give you the cost of return shipping too! I think with these kinds of thing you have to go to a store and actually feel it to see if it's as advertised! It would probably be pretty easy to make one, you would just have to buy the reflective film (it's cheap) and bubble wrap or other insulation/padding and sew it all up. I need a cat bed, maybe I'll make one!

I bought this one for Thunder last year:

http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Solution-Self-Warming-Thermal-Cushion/dp/B000H58YS8/ref=pd_sbs_hg_1

It doesn't have the bubble core, just the reflective film, but it was comfy enough for Thunder. It doesn't get very cold where I live though.

Well they are the pfc that started the argument with Susan Thixton about the recalls. If they feel threatened by their customers asking them to join in on notifying about recalls, & consider us 3rd parties [their words] , how much qa & qc is going into any of their products. I used to order from them, won't be in the future.

For those of us who know how to sew, we could probably make these fairly easily ourselves for our own pets.  Fabric of choice, heavy duty foil, bubble wrap, suitable fabric stuffing/stiffening/fiberfill to make bolster/pillow borders if desired.   Tongue  Would be neat for holiday gifts for fur kids.  Any fabric/craft store should have everything.  May have to go to office supply for bubblewrap.

JM, great minds think alike   Grin

Found a soft fuzzy fabric that I hope the critters will like.
Found the foil covered bubble wrap in a huge roll, cost less than one F&S pad!! at Home Depot.

Off to dust off my sewing machine.

Fingers crossed that they like my homemade heat pads......

Have the foil covered bubble wrap also. But mine is used to insulate inside walls of closets, etc. against the cold and heat. Can't wait to see a pic of a "PEG" creation. This sounds so great.
