I'm sharing our experience with the cat door I had put in for Cody. It is in an insulated garage wall and allows her to access the outside/inside with her microchip. I got the larger size (cat doors come in two sizes) because I didn't want her to feel too confined. It works beautifully, and once set to her microchip, the sensor works each time. It does take 4 C batteries, but I haven't had to replace them at all. And I can set it to different configurations (in only/out only/open and closed at certain times). I had to actually push her through it the first time to set it, but she goes in and out as she pleases now.

It's a SureFlap Microchip Pet Door :  http://www.amazon.com/SureFlap-Microchip-Pet-Door-Brown/dp/B00AE2OW6W

It is perfect for Cody's situation.

Thanks, catmom. It sounds very cool!  I didn't realize they made them so it would actually work off the implanted microchip now.
