MCAL members reach out to help those in need. Monroe County is largely populated by senior citizens. It is reported that some of those folks will feed their animals before feeding themselves. With incomes being "fixed", and people working to make their dollar stretch as far as they can, MCAL wants to make sure that folks don't find themselves in a situation where 1) they are providing nourishment to their animals before themselves and 2) that they don't relinquish their pet as a result of not being able to feed it.
Please join us in supporting those in our community who are experiencing difficulty as a result of these economic times. Ashley’s IGA in Union, WV has graciously allowed us to place containers at the entrance of the store. These boxes are posted with the following signs: “Give what you can. Take what you need.”

If you are in need of pet food in order to keep your pet at home, please take some. On the other hand, if you can help a family in need, please drop an extra bag or can into the box. Contributions from the community are a must if this effort is to be successful!

WEST UNION -- Some Doddridge County residents are trying to keep all of the county's pets healthy this winter. A new pet food pantry opened in December.

People going through a rough time can come in and get enough dog or cat food to feed their pets.

The pantry has helped 30 families, 50 dogs and 53 cats since it opened.

The pantry runs on donations and says it provides a service that a lot of people need.

You can call the pet food pantry at (304) 873-3500 for more information or to make a donation.

Wild and Wonderful Pet Pantry
P.O. Box  955
MacArthur, WV  25873

petmatters@wildandwonderfulpetpantry.org

Welcome to the Wild and Wonderful Pet Pantry, Inc.   We are a non profit organization providing temporary pet food assistance to low income citizens of Beckley, WV and its surrounding areas. Due to these hard economic times, many people don't know if they will be able to feed their families or their pets.

Through this program we hope to lessen the burden on the local animal shelters and also help rescue groups while pets are waiting to go to their forever homes.

This will only be made possible with the kind and generous donations from the people of our community and local businesses.

We will be grateful to accept any dog or cat food donations along with coupons for all types of dog or cat food, cat litter, gift certificates to grocery stores, cash or checks made payable to "Wild and Wonderful Pet Pantry, Inc".

http://www.wildandwonderfulpetpantry.org/Application_Guidelines.html

The Wild and Wonderful Pet Pantry, Inc. requires that the following guidelines are read, understood and agreed to in order for a household to receive any type of assistance. These guidelines are set up so that we may help as many pet owners as possible. The Wild and Wonderful Pet Pantry, Inc. works much like a food pantry for people.

Only one applicant may apply per household.

The amount of pet food a household receives will depend on the number of pets owned, their sizes and the amount of pet food available at the time of distribution.

We ask but do not require a donation at the time food is received. Any amount will help insure that our program can continue to operate.

Food will be distributed on a monthly basis, please call 304-575-9787 for schedule or for info on any cancellations or changes.

We reserve the right to refuse anyone assistance at any time regardless of their income status or needs, such as anyone who abuses this program.

Any personal information we may ask for will be kept strictly confidential and will not be shared with anyone for any reason.

Resale of our donated food or items by any household member is prohibited. If we find out this has occurred any and all members of the household will be banned from our program permanently.

We can only give the brands of food donated to us; special requests will only be honored if that brand/type is available at the time of distribution.

All potential recipients must come to our distribution center on the specified dates to receive assistance; we reserve the right to make exceptions based on a person’s special needs.

If you are picking up assistance for a rescue group or fostered animals group you must provide proof of your involvement with that group.

We are providing a service to the community and ask that recipients only apply for as much food as they need, our service is only temporary and should not be used as a permanent source of pet food.

We are accepting and distributing all brands/ types of pet food, by accepting food or services from our pantry the recipient, all household members, friends and family agree not to hold Wild and Wonderful Pet Pantry, Inc., it’s staff, volunteers, and benefactors legally liable in the event that their pet becomes ill or the food upsets the pets stomach.

When picking up food from our pantry the recipient’s are made aware of the risks that can occur when feeding their pets a new food because it is unlikely the food they will receive is the pet’s usual brand.

Pet Food Pantry Could Lend Helping Paw

CHARLESTON -- "People aren't the only ones who've suffered over the past several months because of the struggling economy. Our furry friends are also feeling the impact.

"That's why one Charleston woman is working with her community to help local pets by starting a food pantry for animals.

"Amy Williams is a therapist. She says she sees first hand how much joy and happiness animals bring to their owners. But during tough financial times, finding extra money to feed and care for pets can be a struggle.

""For so many people their pets are family members," Williams said. "So the idea of having to part with them because they can't afford to feed them is just devastating."

"After seeing a story from another state about a young man helping animals in his community Williams was inspired to start the project. Williams has recruited other members of the community to help. Some are donating money. Others are lending their talent by designing a logo and planning fundraisers. The Book Exchange, a business on the East End, has also offered to serve as a temporary location to operate the pantry. Some local charities who help distribute food to people are also excited about the project.

""There's already a few different places that distribute pet food on a small scale and they've agreed that if we had a bigger source we could funnel food though them too," Williams said.

"Williams is doing most of the promotion for the project through Facebook. Her profile name is "Amy Van Gogh". The pantry also has an email address
