Are veterinarians required to give you a written prescription if asked?

In many states YES. You can look your state up here. In many cases you can save over half the cost of what you would pay at the veterinarians office even for needles and subcutaneous  fluids . Also note the state contact addresses and phone numbers because these laws are subject to change.

Case in point, I use to pay $16.00 a bag for my RLS for my CRF cats and when I learned to ask for a script I was able to get 12 bags or a case for $18.00 and change. I hope this is of help to someone.  I know we had to re mortgage our house well over a year ago just  to keep up on our vet bills...knowing this could have saved us a fortune
