I will be getting my 5-month-old Persian kitten fixed tomorrow. I never had a male anything neutered, so I don't know what to expect afterwards for care. Does anybody want to share stories, advice, information on the aftercare of a male? I am sure he will be fine, but I am SO nervous.

He'll waddle around for a little bit and spend a lot of time licking where his balls used to be, but he'll get over it fast. It's a much easier procedure for males. It's been a long while since I've cared for a freshly neutered boy, but from what I recall I didn't really have to do anything aside from making sure he didn't tear the stitches.

LOL, thank you for that laugh! I am not even sure at this point he even realizes he has balls. I could be wrong though.  Grin

Zen- It's been awhile, but I remember the vet recommending shredded paper instead of litter for about a week. Apparently if the cat hunches low to go they can get litter in the incision. Last cat I had done was a feral we adopted who was 8-9 yrs old. He did fine so I imagine a kitten would be able to get over it easier.Ps they do lick the missing balls !

Zen,

Leslie makes a good point about the litter, either shredded paper or recycled newspaper type litters are good choices for cats after surgery.

No stitches to remove like the females.  None of my boys ever had stitches anyway.

I think it was more traumatic for my husband thinking about our boys being neutered than it actually was for our cats.   Undecided

Yes, lots of licking, but they always lick their booboos, don't they.   Wink

When I've had male kittens neutered, they appeared not to even notice it--they were too busy playing.

Agree about the newspaper litter box for awhile.
