I was impressed with Dr. deRose of Greenway Pet Clinic in Beaverton Oregon who extracted four of Kaffe's teeth in 2006.  I thought he was the gentlest vet I have ever met.  But then we moved house and against my own heart, I took my cat Kaffe for a "routine" wellness check-up at a new clinic near where we now live.  When the bloodwork returned with elevated T4 and some qustionable numbers, I determined to go back to Dr. deRose and have the bloodwork done all over again.

Today was the day of the check-up and bloodwork.  Results will not be in until Monday.  But I want to share with you how this "check-up and consult" went.

Dr. deRose behaved as if I was his only client... Kaffe and I had his undivided attention for - wait for this - TWO HOURS!!!!  (Definetley NOT a conveyor belt vet clinic this one) .  Dr. deRose patiently answered my 10,000 questions and observations.  Listened attentively and with real interest on the things I found out through my own research.... was happy to discuss many aspects of feline health with me and was open to several ideas I put forward...  At one point, he said that I was the first client he has had that seems to understand the nitty-gritty of feline hyperthyroidism and what must be done about it.  Cheesy  I showed him my recipes (from the Meowmie thread) to get his approval...  He looked them over and said they were good.... and then he asked, "May I keep these?"   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy  He has many cats and thinks he wants to try the recipes on them  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy  (sorry - just had to brag about that one).  But it is true what I've heard about Dr. deRose - he really is a very skilled, caring and wonderful  Vet!

Wow, Dr. deRose is a keeper!  Sounds like he must have the same opinion of you as a patient.  You do have bragging rights about him asking for your recipes.  Smart man to be doing some homecooking, too.

Dr. DeRose's positive reaction to your recipes is just one more sign that this vet knows what he's doing and he's exactly the right one for you and your cat at this time. I love to hear about the really compassionate and competent vets. All fingers and paws crossed for good results.

Oh --- everything was quite normal and unremarkable really... althogh the Total T4 and Free T4 was NOT unremarkable to me becuase both reading confirmed that Kaffe is NOT hyper-T...

very strange... last March 22, his T4 was 4.28 (past the "grey area")
then Ma1, it is 1.76!  That's a BIG decline!  but... I'm just soooo happy that Kaffe's thyroid is normal!

Glad Kaffe's thyroid is normal. Makes ones heart glad that anothers pet is doing well-gives others hope too for their own beloved fur babies.

Dr. Cawley, my vet in Alpharetta GA when we lived there was so nice. My dog, Jessie, had a really bad incident when she was boarded at a boarding facility (she badly attacked another dog, and a person was injured trying to break up the fight). He was the one who convinced me not to put her down and work with a behaviorist. In the gap between not being able to board her at her old facility and my finding a competent pet-sitter (and he helped me find one), I had to board her with him a few times.  Jessie was only 18 mos and to say that she is high-energy would be an understatement. I expressed my concerns about her being crated full-time at the vets and he assured me we could work something out about getting her additional exercise while she was with him.

Well, when I went to pick her up the first time I had to leave her there, the vet tech told me that when she came to open the practice, and again at lunch, she saw Dr. Cawley walking Jessie, and she thought that was highly unusual! It was, but God bless him for doing what he could to accommodate our temporary "special needs". Good man! Kiss
