Frankie's Friends--the Hope Fund

Frankie’s Friends provides hope for families who are simply unable to pay for an unexpected illness.

While many charitable organizations provide care for wildlife, strays, abused animals, or relinquished and abandoned pets, few exist for the large number of pets from otherwise loving and responsible families who cannot afford the cost of care.

Pets must be recommended for the Hope Fund support by their attending veterinarian.

Feline Veterinary Emergency Assistance Program

Provides financial assistance to cat and kitten guardians who are unable to afford veterinary services to save their companions when life-threatening illness or injury strikes.

The Pet Fund

The Pet Fund is a registered 501(c) 3 nonprofit association that provides financial assistance to owners of domestic animals who need veterinary care.

Vet-I-Care is a non-profit foundation committed to helping families secure the resources required to provide much needed specialty and surgical care for their pets.

"Proceeds from the sale of KaeLeigh’s bottle-cap necklaces benefit Pets of the Homeless. After selling more than 500 necklaces, she presented a check Tuesday in the amount of $1,000 to Dr. Kevin Stoothoff, a veterinarian at South Ocala Animal Clinic."

"Stoothoff said donations for pets of the homeless have stayed about the same in the slow economy, but the need has tripled. Besides food, his clinic needs collars, leashes, pet blankets and coats.

""People can give a dollar if that’s all they have; it all adds up," he said.

"Stoothoff said KaeLeigh’s check was the largest donation he has received, and will pay for vaccines for pets of the homeless.

"He and two other veterinarians from the clinic visit Brothers Keeper twice a month to distribute donated pet food and examine and vaccinate the pets. He estimates they hand out 300 pounds of food per visit."

- October 2008, Dr. David Slocum of Hazel Dell Animal Hospital runs a health clinic for pets of the homeless and low income families at Share House a local homeless shelter.  He and his wife see approximately 20-40 pets each session.

Brown Dog Foundation

At Brown Dog Foundation it is our mission to offer pet owners in temporary financial crisis an alternative to euthanasia when their pet faces a treatable life-threatening condition in order to restore the quality of life for pet and owner.

http://www.browndogfoundation.org/process

Brown Dog Foundation does not currently offer pre-approval assistance in emergency cases.  Nor do we issue approvals by phone or email.

We can "fast-track" our process in most cases (a 1-day response when all parties cooperate fully and immediately).  The typical process takes anywhere from 2-5 business days, depending upon the requirements of treatments.

More details at link.

http://www.browndogfoundation.org/prequal

Treatments we consider funding
Surgery related to correctible immobility of pet when the life fo the pet is in danger
Exploratory surgery when the life of the pet is in danger
Treatable cancers (Stages I-III)
Treatable neurological disorders
Diagnosis and initial treatment of on-going conditions/diseases (except cancer)
Treatable organ disorders (organ must not be in failure)
Limb removal (when the animal's life is truly at-risk)
Palliative Treatment for End of Life cases

Life-saving treatment and Rehabilitation treatment programs available in TN only; assistance with prescription medications and disaster relief available in and outside of TN.

http://www.pdsa.org.uk/

PDSA is the UK's leading veterinary charity, caring for more than 350,000 pet patients belonging to people in need.

The free veterinary care provided by PDSA for owners who cannot afford private vet fees is not limited to dogs and cats - all popular domestic pets are treated, including those described as 'small furries' - rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils rats and mice

http://www.pdsa.org.uk/petaidhospital.html

What is a PDSA PetAid hospital?

Around the UK there are 43 PDSA PetAid hospitals and 4 PDSA PetAid branches that provide a range of medical and surgical veterinary services for sick and injured pets. These are staffed by highly qualified and experience veterinary surgeons and nurses.

Treatment to the sick and injured pets of eligible clients is completely free of charge. But because PDSA's veterinary services are funded entirely by public support, all owners are encouraged to make a contribution towards the cost of their pet's treatment, in order to enable PDSA to continue its valuable service.

Who qualifies for treatment?

Each PDSA PetAid hospital and branch has its own catchment area, defined by local postcodes. The charity cannot register pet owners who live outside these specific areas for free treatment.

PDSA can only register clients who are in receipt of Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit (Council Tax exemptions are not the same as Council Tax Benefit and do not qualify).

To find your nearest PDSA PetAid hospital please use the 'Find us' feature on this website.

http://www.pdsa.org.uk/managed/finder.html

Find Us link.

To enquire about your eligbility please phone free on 0800 731 2502 or use the eligibility enquiry form.

http://www.pdsa.org.uk/cfeligibility

Eligibility enquiry form.

Note that you need to register with a PDSA hospital or clinic before you have a need:

YOU NEED TO REGISTER WITH ONE OF THE VETS BEFORE YOUR PET BECOMES ILL OR IS INJURED- DO IT NOW!

http://www.pdsa.org.uk/eligibility.html

How do I register for PDSA help?

To register for PDSA help, a person must provide proof of receipt of benefit by showing an award letter from their Council or similar documentation. In addition at PetAid hospitals confirmation of personal identification is required. Once registered, the pet owner is provided with a Client Agreement that they are asked to present each time they bring their pet for treatment.

SAVE A PET
This is a charity local to Lancaster and district and they have assured me that most vets in the area are aware of them.  However, they are very keen to raise funds but very secretive on how to contact them.  Should you have difficulty in getting assistance to find out more, via your vets, let me know.   May give assistance with veterinary costs.
