Not related to pet food recalls but my Gigi's liver issue/ atypical cushings was caused by a common worm preventative... Food is her medicine  Cool .... She got sick in march of 07 , 5-6 yrs AFTER the medicine that I was told would prevent illness Roll Eyes Shocked was discontinued ... Luckily I have a good holistic vet and accupucturist  Gigi is doing better every day /.//

I just want everyone to think before just doing the "common protocol"... Food is not the only thing killing or injuring our animals ... In Gigis case it was a heartworm medicine that did the damage

Gigi was NOT on any commercial wet foods on a reg basis //// for the past 3 ish yrs she has had a back up of canned food but 85% raw/ homemade 15% commercial dry ( rotated brands ) and treats ....

The only traditional avail treatments for her are POISONS... so luckily the natural route is doing her well

I'm glad to hear that Gigi's condition is improving.  I'm a big believer that holistic medicine can improve chronic conditions.  Do you have any links you could post about this medication causing atypical Cushings?  I'd be interested even if the information is anecdotal.

I would like to know more also. All 3 of my dogs have had thyroid & liver #'s that are abnormal. They are on a topical heartworm, flea & tick preventative. I would go natural instead, but this is a bad tick & mosquito area. My brother in law lost a dog to heartworm, & I've had 1 with Lyme as well as 3 neighbors. We back up to the woods, so worms are a conatant problem. They just love the kitty ,raccoon & deer treats . No links I found this out thru an animal translator and the vet totally agreed ... I would happily put a link to her site I meet her by accident ... she also stated that Gigi would get better , note that was a month before a firm diagnosis at that pt I knew nothing cept some blood work was off and was reeling from lossing kandie after a 4 yr crf fight Shocked Shocked too things I just dont understand

Delete if needed it was heartgaurd ...  it contains a VERY VERY common animal wormer ... IE NO animal of mine will be wormed unless I see one or a stool sample yeilds it ... upon some basic research which I will re look up since it was on a old puter  I found out HOW dangerous THESE COMMON as Vaccine meds really ARE/// Undecided Undecided

sharky -
What is an "animal translator"?  I have never heard the term.  How does this person diagnose a problem?

Sharky, what breed is your dog?  My husband was telling me some breeds cannot tolerate the drug in Heartguard just this evening.  I believe Collies are one.

Wow, I didn't know this. i had a dog with heartworms and was treated and She's fine. Now all my dogs are on Revolution for all that. I know it's not great but it gets rid of everything.
you can't see heartworms. They are only in the heart.
We have so many ticks, fleas, you name it around here in the summer.
But too much ivemectin will kill anything. It sure will kill a cat quick.
