I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this article from my local newspaper; mods please move it if necessary. Here's one pet owner's letter about how her local store responded after the recall:

What an unbelievable pet store! In late January we lost our beloved little tiny Siamese kitten that we had only had for about 13 weeks. We didn't know what to do. He was lethargic, jaundiced. We had testing at our wonderful vets (Richmond) and had scheduled a ultrasound the following day to find out what was wrong with him. That evening he got worse and by very early morning, his breathing was labored. At 7 a.m. he died in my husbands arms, with me holding his little paw. A few tearful weeks went by and Pet Advantage on Dorset Street in South Burlington called and had gone through their records of people that had frequent buyer cards, and found that Westford had been fed one of the recalled wet foods. They didn't have to do this, but they took the time to help out their clientele and notify them. I was more than shocked that they could even do this, but then thinking about it, we switched from the big box stores for our two dogs, then two cats and Oscar fish because of the warm and caring associates they have. They always took the time no matter how silly we sounded. I praise them and will always be a loyal customer. Many thanks to our friends too at Richmond Animal hospital for their warmth and for always being there for us too, as we are "major" animal lovers, they are the most important part of their lives. My heart goes out to the others with all this, and not a day goes by that I'm not worrying about what I am feeding my pets, and making sure they are safe, which I hope the pet food makers are also doing. We will go on with animals forever and want most for their love and devotion to us to be the same as we are to them. PATTI HEAVNER Richmond

That looks like the right kind of post to me. Have you been to any other stores recently? We're still getting reports of recalled food on the shelves and we'd like to make sure that stores have them removed.

I've been to my local Petco (South Burlington, VT). Seems safe, quite a few signs informing about the recall. I didn't have a lot of time so my research was very superficial (I'll try again later this week). All I can say is that the most recently recalled Nutro products were gone off the shelves. So good job, I think.

I just want to say that I got an email from my congressman. He assured me that he shared my concerns in regards to the pet food fiasco, and although he didn't commit to anything he said that he'd keep my comments in mind. He asked me to stay in touch.
