Since at least as far back as 1895 though it seems ineffective against rodents and has sickened and killed many people.  Also they think it is the source of the poultry and egg problems.  The strain is not the one in our current outbreak, but get this - rice is baited with this stuff.

This is crazy, and it sounds like it doesn't even really work to kill rats & mice.  They have to add warfarin for it to be effective.  So we have mice & rats on ships, getting transported all over the world, probably resistant to this salmonella & possibly spreading it around.  Well I guess it beats bubonic plague Huh

And don't forget the family of mice i saw at Wal Mart. they could have come from China.
