I wanted to start Lucy's thread the only way I could---the very first day with us after her very first fleabath!  I know you have seen this pix before---but it just had to be the first one--don't you think?!

Any suggestions are welcome in our effort to help heal our Lucy Lou!  We can not imagine what she is feeling---we understand what has happened and we know the extent of our grief--we do welcome your thoughts! Kiss

Of course---she is the one on the left--very concerned! "Who are you people"??

Well, I have an idea!  How bout a litter of about 5 new puppies? That way you, Mike and Lucy would be so busy you wouldnt have time to do anything else....we could call you Carolmom6 or Dogmom6!  Wink  Of course, poor Smudge would probably pack her bags and leave so on second thought that might not be a good idea.

And this pic is just darling, how can anything be so darn cute!  Im glad to see this thread, I cant wait to see more pics in the life of sweet Lucy Lou.

Carol, Get Lucy a buddy!  We have one cat now, Perseus, and decided he needs a buddy as he's never been an "only cat".  We went to 2 large shelters and 2 animal adoption fairs on Saturday looking for a new family member.  I was hesitant to go at first because I thought I would see hundreds of cats that no one wants.  Much to my surprise, the two shelters only had about a dozen cats each and the animal adoption fairs only had about a dozen cats between them.  And there were plenty of people in line at all places to adopt!  The cats that were available all had been recently put up for adoption, but had notes in their profiles such as doesn't like to be held, is FIV positive, needs to be an only cat, cat doesn't like noise, cat doesn't like men (LOL), etc.

I am shocked at how few kitties are available here in No. Calif. but then again so many people have cats as pets and the spay/neuter laws are so enforced that maybe we're seeing a trend finally in the right direction.

We will expand our hunt next weekend outside of our county and see what happens.  In the meantime, I can tell Perseus is grieving over the loss of his two girls so we definitely need to find him a buddy soon.

....she's leaving on a jet plane, dont know when she'll be back again.....oh baby oh!  .......

Poor Smudge, she can come live with cousin Sophers, well that might not be good either as Sophers has proven herself to be not so friendly to other kitties, the ungrateful, unsocialable little juvenile that she is.  Roll Eyes

Dont worry dear Smudge, mommy wont abandon you, you are still Queen of the empire.  Carol, you might have to make a thread for sweet Smudge too to make up for these awful notions of additional dog members of the family.  Wink

I'm anticipating that, when Genji my old gentleman cat passes, MollyCat might be left to put up with the two dogs. When she joined us (nearly two years ago!), this middle aged ladycat had apparently never seen a dog. They are both so much larger than she is (well, they are only 25 pounds each), but you would never think that she notices the difference in size.

Carol, you'll know when it's time to bring another little soul into the family for Lucy.

When Smudge gets on that plane she just might bring back some extras for everyone Roll Eyes Don't what kind, color, or breed, but you never know.
Keep an eye on that suitcase.
We love you Lucy.

Lovely thread, Carol!  I have been meaning to ask: do you think Lucy understands about Harry?

Does Lucy like off-leash parks, Carol?  Or is there another dog in the neighborhood she could hang out with?

When I lost my first dog, I really tried to avoid getting another by taking my other dog to the dog park a lot and he loved it.  But one day while at the entrance to the park, I saw a sign, "Poco needs a loving home", and I was back up to two again.

Kaffe---Lucy is looking for him still--she is eating and is playing a little--she has a sadness to her and I googled for some info on losing a littermate and there does appear to be a certain mourning---we did allow her to be with him but it was in the truck only in his normal lay down spot so maybe we shoulld have changed that--like she thought he was just laying there---he had such a decreas in his activity that she was used to having him lay down so much--we are keeping an eye on her and trying to keep her happy!

Klondike
--she loves the off leash park but it is to see the people---she doesn't like the other dogs---she used to just stick with her brother and walk the perimeter---she didn't like to socialize  and there were two occasions at others' homes that she was growled at and got in a fight-out of nowhere -so we wonder if she has some "baggage" from that...this is why we are not in a hurry to get her a playmate--we are not sure she would want one that wasn't Harry!?  Looking for that crystal ball that will tell us what to do! Huh and that is why I said ---advice anyone! Wink

In time Carol, when you and Mike are ready- I think She will do better with a puppy than a full grown dog. She is the Alfa Female and She might not like another full grown dog around.

Glad you got Lucy's thread started.  I've been watching for it.
Having gone through this myself, here's my best advice: time and
touch.  She will probably miss Harry for a long time, maybe always.
They were a part of each other.  Keep her close, lots of hugs and
pats and one-sided conversations that keep her engaged with you.
I think Trudy is right about a puppy being accepted better than an
older dog, but I wouldn't be in a hurry.  And not on account of Lucy.
For you, Carol.  You and Mike need time to mend your broken hearts.
Then you'll be ready to face the joy and challenge of a new fur-baby.
