I love those photos in the woods.  That is something I would never see in real life.  Between those and all the others, it seems like they are a little gang of imps.  They are obviously really intelligent.

Is your dog a small breed?  I can understand even a larger dog being intimidated.

Hope to hear from you again, Pygmypets.  I was thinking of you the other day when I was out taking Poco for a buggy ride.  Some gardeners were working on a yard in the neighborhood, and I thought I saw a big dog laying on a blanket near their truck, but it turned out the be a goat!  This was a very odd sight in an area of city-sized lots.

I talked the lady that owned the goat and she said that he always went with them on jobs since he was lonely after a their little dog died.  She said that little dog was the goat's whole world and they couldn't bear to leave him alone all day.  The goat didn't like to be petted by strangers, but he was very tame and well-behaved.  He wasn't tethered, yet would lay on that blanket all day just to be able to get out and have some company during the day.

Klondike
Thank you for the comments about the goats in the woods. We walk together several times a week.
It is my quiet time away from work, problems, etc. It is like meditation or prayer time. All is quiet and my mind can empty and regroup. The munching sounds is soothing and I can really hear the birds singing. The bird songs get lost in my daily life sometimes but on these walks they become so crystal clear and pure.
The goats check on me from time to time, nudging my hand or leg to wake me up and bring me back to earth. They lean against me and rub their heads on me "pet me Mom" . It swells my heart with love for these little creatures. The little murmurs of their goat sounds and muffled goat -gossiping makes me smile.
By the time we get back and run to the house I feel pretty refreshed...then they start screaming for crackers and jumping all over me and I am back in the ruckus of daily life again. but for that short time, the goats and I are in our own quiet little place.
As for Patches our shy girl? Well she is not afraid of the goats but she is timid about leaving the house. The house is her domain. She likes it inside..her couch..her grub..her bone..why go outside? lol..She has only been with us since Dec and she is definitly a city slicker. She loves her creature comforts and the only thing she enjoys about farm life is rolling in horse manure.
Here are the many faces of Patches...looking sad...looking angry...looking bored...looking at me like I am an idiot.lol..the many faces of Patches that all look the same!!!!lol

Klondike..thank you for sharing your story of the goat you saw on your walk. What a surprise to see a goat on the lawn but how heartwarming that the owners did not want to leave him alone. Have you seen him since?
Here is my Bobby making more faces..Bob is my favorite but don't tell the others.

going nutz, bridgett
Thank you both for visiting with my babies. We are blessed to be able to live this way..We love our life here..it is alot of hard work, the farm always needs something , the driveway impassable, and the house is a wreck...no, it is beyond a wreck...but we love it.
We were living well in our past life, but as the years passed we felt empty. We felt we had all this stuff but no life...It took many years but we seemed to reach the same conclusion at about the same time.We wanted our own little farm with animals.
Hubby and I decided we need to stop and smell the roses or in our case goat and horse poop.
Now we live very simply . it is a fun  yet challenging at times. My work car is the worst looking thing in the company parking lot. lol!
We have learned to do alot of vet work, shots, basic things etc ourselves. We are learning everyday how to better caretakers for our furry family.
We have set a limit for ourselves on how many animals we can keep and still be able to care for them 100%.I sold a nice trail horse last month to a very sweet girl. That gave me room for our newest rescue, a starving mini horse.
So that is alittle of our story..see what happens when two animal lovers get married? hahaha
Here is a photo of the rescue mini 2 weeks after he arrived here.

Pygmypets, what a wonderful place you have and a wonderful life indeed, to be able to share your "space" with all those wonderful animals!  Luv your pics.  Or should I say they are allowing you to share their space...lol   Grin

Love the new photos, Pygmypets, and your recounting of the 'goat walks' and what they mean to you.  I find getting out in a natural environment very restorative, too.  And it doesn't have to be deep wilderness, either, to be relaxing.

I haven't seen the gardeners and their pet goat again.  Hope they get some referrals so I do, though in our neighborhood most people do their own lawns.  I wished that I had my camera that day!

That is nice that you respect Patches preferences to hang around the house.  It must be overwhelming to her being around so many farm animals if she was a city dog.  But it looks like she likes the porch.  Smiley

I too really enjoyed your descriptions of the walks with the goats; I got a sense of being there while reading them.
Enjoyed the photos of the animals too. Bless your hearts for taking in that precious little horse!

Catwoods,
Lightning is our newest family member. He was rescued from a terrible home .Starving, wounded and full of parasites. There are at least 50 little razor type cuts all over his hind legs , belly and hips. They are a mystery.
He is very tiny .He stands about 35 inches at the shoulder.and is a fleabitten grey. I think he will be stunning when he fills back out and starts to prance again. He is only 4 but looks like a very old horse. Sunken in all the wrong places.
Our vet said it will take about 6 months of careful feeding to restore his bloom. He is in very poor condition but now he is on the road to recovery. When he got here he just seemed so afraid of everything. He has been here a month now and you can see in the pics how much better he looks already.
He has joined 2 other adopted mini horses that arrived here last month. They are in fine condition and are settling in well.
Lightning is a welcome addition to our fur-family and they are all beloved to us.
I thank you for all your kind comments about our goats, donkeys and horses ,cats and Patches.
here is about a week after arrival

here is last week in the yard with Albert.

Here is yeaterday.

catbird, klondike,Sandi,lesliek
Thanks guys for the nice comments. We really love all these furries here. They add so much to our lives in many ,many ways.
Here are some fresh goat faces and some pics of our adopted mini mare.
We think our adopted mini mare may be pregnant. We will do a ultasound to find out. We were not told about this before she came here but now we are excited. It will be the only baby born on our farm. Anyway she just looks unusually fat in her lower belly...it is not a health issue..vet gave her a good report. when she arrived..so either she is pregnant or just a pig.
She is a handful...but aren't most us gals? lol!

Wow, what a transformation in Lightning.  He is becoming a beautiful horse.

Is there a reason that goats would put their heads in that vertical position?  Or is this just a goat being silly?
