Hi All,

We adopted a new family member on Friday -- an English Springer Spaniel puppy.  His name is Kirlin.  It doesn't take long to fall in love.

What a face!  Didn't take long?  I'll bet it was love at first sight.
May you have many happy years together.

Oh my God!!  What an adorable little guy!  He's a stocky little thing, isn't he.  I know springers have unusually large feet for their size, but his legs & nose are really chunky too.  I bet he'll be a strapping healthy guy--were his parents large or stocky?

What kind of personality does he have?  He looks very self-possessed & calm in your pics.

How adorable! Kirlin is a cutie alright.  Having Springer pups for the first time myself, I'm learning what awesome dogs they are.  I'm sure Kirlin will bring much love and happiness to your home.  Congratulations!

Thank you, everyone.  He is wonderful.  I don't think I've laughed this much in months.

Petslave, he is a little stocky looking, isn't he?  I think he's at an awkward stage. Grin  His feet are too big for his body.  I've never seen a mouth move so fast as when he eats - he doesn't come up for air.  As he gets older, his nose will get longer and he'll become more proportioned.  Springers look like little piglets when they're born - their noses are smushed.  We're actually going to show him.  Both of his parents are champions and not large at all.  My husband and I are empty-nesters and need a new hobby.  We got him from the same breeder that Hunter came from and she talked us into showing.  I don't really care if he wins, we'll have fun and get to travel and spend alot of time together.  Right now, he's really cuddly and calm, but persistent when he wants something.

On a food note, I was worried about finding something non-toxic for him to chew on, but he found something himself - a 2' stick from an oak tree.  He's been taking it in and out of his crate (I leave the door open most of the time) and he chews for a long time.  That's what dogs did before there were pet food companies - imagine that!

Cathy -
I think your puppy will be a great show dog.  His markings are beautiful!  I don't have dogs myself, but I have to ask this "dumb" question.  You said he chews on an oak tree stick.  Will the wood chips or splinters that he might swallow be a problem in his tummy?  I truly don't know, but that is the first thought that came to my mind.   Huh

Mandycat, thanks.  I did some research and found, of course, opinions on both sides.  But, better safe than sorry.  The little man's stick has gone to mulch heaven.  I'm off to find something (other than me) for him to chew on.
