Carol,

Congratulations!  That's such happy news.  Little Jack is a cutie.

She is looking from afar!!  But she seems much more relaxed with only one to look out for---although even Smudgie is bigger than Jack (but not for long).  She seems to still be in recovery mode---she is still slowly finding out what she used to do----amazing to see....even has a more alert look to her too...of course no one really knows what "melabrain"-(as we call it now) has done to these amazing survivors.... Huh

LOL funny pics Carol.  Lucy says I cant show my face yet and I cant get toooo close quite yet, gotta play a little hard to get in the beginning ya know, otherwise they will think Im a push-over.   I think its a major milestone that they are laying on the same bed together.  Good girl Lucy!

Congratulations on your new baby! It'll likely take a bit of time, but I'm sure that Lucy and Smudge will come to love little Jack. What a sweet puppy!  Somewhere in a wonderful, healing place, I'm sure Harry is smiling.
Blessings

Jack's in love!  Grin

Lucy will get there ....

.... and Smudge will continue to reluctantly tolerate those annoying canines who insist on sharing her space.

Nowhere but here would this be appreciated as much..... Cry...It has been REAL hot so the 3 of us have been in the cellar of the new house---all we need is an extension cord for the tv, a few books, and the phones...and the pups really feel much better there and while watching Oprah at 4pm here (with the pregnant man episode) Jack had been laying down as close as Lucy would let him and then Lucy lifted her head, did a stretch and "managed" to get so close to sleeping Jack that her head and neck were right up against him and I said what a good girl Lucy Lou and she slowly wagged her tail twice and then let out a big sign... Cry I had to come in this old hothouse to tell you all.... Cry Cry

That is a big step.  I noticed her body language in the photos where she was keeping her head as far away from the little guy as possible.  Wink

But now it sound like some grudging acceptance is taking place.  Good that you are giving her extra love so she feels secure as top dog.  Putting her food down first, etc, might reinforce that.  I used to do that with Poco's elder.

Carol, Jack is so cute! Give Lucy time, sounds like she is already accepting him. I agree with Klondike when we added our now 12 yr old golden to the family our other golden was 5 at the time. We put her food bowl down first, took her out first, she came out of the car first, etc. just so she felt good and realized the puppy was not taking her place. It also maybe that Lucy is not sure how long the puppy is staying - as she realizes he is there for good and for a long time she will get more comfortable. Smudge must wonder who is that little guy, doesn't smell like a kitten but to small to be a dog!

Carol, Harry is watching over all of you. He'll make sure things work out.

I love those pictures of Lucy and Jack. He is so small and round, and she is so big and sleek and wise. My guys sleep like that, and they are best friends.
