Well, I finally got a few more pics of Ottopus, aka Ottoski as he's becoming known here. He & Eppie are at a wary peace - she's been quite nervous of him I think, but holds her ground. for 2-3 nights they actually shared the bed - him on one side, her in the opposite corner. But when Mark's here there's less room & Otto retreated to the spare room last 2 nights. Today she's been getting a bit feistier - hissing a lot if he's anywhere close, and when she came back to the bed this morning (Mark had got up & left early) walked up to him & got ready to pounce. She does consider the bed her territory when I'm in it - she always chased Max off with the same tactics. He'd see her glaring at him & jump off. But Otto's lack of imitidation seems to faze her, he just lies still with his eyes half-closed, so it was she who left. Have to see how tonight goes when its just me again. Anyhow here are some pics: This shows his darker 'stripes' quie well - he's almost a 'charcoal' tabby!: And he likes looking at the world go by outside (he's also found the back door & stares wistfully through the (locked) cat flap) And he's getting quite playful - last night he was thudding around upstaris chasing himself - and his tail! So when can I go out there ?

Thanks for the new pix! Otto is a beautiful boy. Glad to read that Eppie and Otto are sorta making up now. It does take time.

Otto is gorgeous! I agree that it will take time for Otto and Eppie to settle down around each other, but it sounds like progress is ongoing. "Ottopus" LOL JoMax!

Wow, I can see the difference in Otto's coat already! He is looking good. I wonder if the "charcoal tabby" coloration will stay, or if he will turn all black in the end. The present coloring is quite attractive.

Wow, he looks great already! Nothing like a few weeks of good food in a new home! And it sounds like little Eppster girl is getting used to him. I bet they will be sleeping a few inches from each other within a few weeks.

Nice to see more pictures. I do love his stripes and I'll bet they'll get more pronounced when his fur becomes bright and shiny.

Otto's expression in the last photo really reminds me a lot of my Tommy Tom, exactly the same expression and shaped head. IF Otto were gray like TT, I would have trouble telling them apart.

Thanks (on Otto's behalf) to everyone for the complements. Bug, you're right the stripes are getting more & more noticeable as his coat gets shinier. Catbird - I don't think he'll every turn all black, 'cos the minute your part the fur its almost white underneath. You can see in the bottom pic how when it parts (like over his back haunch) it makes him look bald, but its the effect of the light fur showing. No, JJ & Leskliek, he's not Polish or Russian , what happened was I kept calling him 'Otto boy' which seemed wrong because "the boy" was always Max, and we didnt want to carry the epithet over. But I felt I needed to tag something on, it seems natural to have a 3rd syllable somehow. Somehow -pus and -ski came to mind (thanks, Catwoods for getting the O(k)ttopus joke!) Like Eppie is always "Eppie girl" or "Eppiecat".... But I like Eppster, too Petslave - I will try it on her I bet they will be sleeping a few inches from each other within a few weeks. It would be a first Eppie has NEVER slept close to another cat, including the 3 she grew up with.

He's really unique. I don't think I've ever seen a black tabby with a white undercoat. More pictures, please.

Well the vet indicated the white undercoat was a natural part of his colouring - strangely it also also white under the dark stripes.... He's a very playful cat - esp after eating, he leaps around the place chasing anything he can see - bits of fluff, dead leaves, catnip mice, his tail, shadows... but he really loves those bits of fluff! I will try & get some pics of him playing. He loves being stroked & groomed, but doesn't respond to invitations (apart from to food!) - makes me think he didn't get much human attention when young. If I go to him he enjoys the fuss, but if he's somewhere close by & I'm sitting down & call him (have tried all the usual cat-calling sounds, patting lap, cushions etc, etc) most of the time he doesn't even look towards me. The other thing I think he's been deprived of is a scatching post. There are now 3 stragetically placed around the house, including a new one I got specially, but he just wants to use my sofa, armchair & rugs. Its really hard trying to stop him without him then getting worried & running away - I don't want to impede the bonding/intergration but I do want some furniture left. I tried rubbing catnip over his post - he just rolled around & rubbed against it - but no notion of using claws on it. He also sees Eppie use them all the time. His claws are always out when he leaps around playing too, e.g. he jumps from the floor to the chair arm, runs along and grabs all around it (it is (still just about) a nice wicker-look weave) Any ideas anyone?
