Progress with Madame Curious is slow. In town, she will come into the back of the house where we retain a work space, to eat. Close the door, and she runs around frantically to the windows and the door, hollering to get out. So DH let her back out. She'll still jump and hiss if anyone touches her. Now that cold weather has arrived, she has two outdoor shelters. And during the worst of the cold, our friend living in the house did close her in overnight. I've been reading some advice that ferals over three years old can't ever be tamed and should remain outdoors, with shelters. I just don't know. AFAIK Madame was TNRed by someone who left the neighborhood 6 months to a year before the tornado, so she's three-ish. Anna and Pretty Girl became lap cats after a long time, but may have been younger when we found them.

Madame wanders sometimes, she has another house where she likes to hang out in the neighborhood. There aren't many houses left so there's not much traffic. I worry about her, though.

Anyway these pics from the summer show first, that my usual view of her is the walking away one. My, she has beautiful hind feet:

Sometimes I get a picture of her like this, though:

Hopefully, someday, she will realize what a nice place inside can be!

She is a beautiful cat. I think it takes a very long time for those outdoor cats to become trustful enough to allow themselves to be vulnerable. Thanks for taking such good care of her, on her terms.

My former TNR girl, Lucy, who pushed out the screen, has come back and sleeps in the kitty tube and shows up every night for dinner. I can see that she half wants to be friends, but she is so fearful. We thought she was probably owned at one time, but something happened. We had gotten to the point where I could pet her and give her medication after her spay. Hoping against hope that she will allow herself to be touched again.

It's hard loving these cats because the outdoors is full of so much danger . . . hoping your pretty girl will gradually become more comfortable with you.

Madame is so gorgeous! and these are great pictures. I'm hoping that one day, she'll decide that being inside more of the time is a good idea.

Oh thank you everyone, I'm sure Madame on some level, actually likes being told she's pretty!

Catmom5, I hope Lucy will again let you pet her and get closer; it's indeed so hard with these ferals when you can tell they would like to be friendlier but they just can't quite get there, and you come so close . . . Madame talks a lot some days . . . encouraging, but she might be saying, "Keep your distance!"

Hoping all feral and stray and lost kitties of the world stay safe!

Madame Curious earlier in the spring:

She is a contented house cat now. Long story, more later.
