Thanks to generous donors, grants for SPAY/NEUTERING OF A CAT OR DOG are available to residents who need help covering the cost of surgery. All applicants must be a resident of Texas. A copy of proof of residency (driver's license, photo ID, utility bill, etc.) must be included with the appropriate application.

Disadvantaged Residents
Requires some type of government assistance program. Examples include CHIP, WIC, Medicare, Medicaid, Unemployment, public housing, etc. Proof of such government assistance is required.

Multiple Pet Owners
Requires that the owner bring three or more animals from the same household for surgery on the same day. The owner will be responsible for the cost of the first two surgeries, and all additional surgeries will be covered under the grant. The covered surgeries must be performed on the same day in order to qualify. If the owner needs assistance in paying for the first two surgeries, they should inquire about additional grant opportunities.

Feral Cats
Requires that the cat be feral, trapped in a humane trap and then brought to the clinic. Friendly neighborhood cats, barn cats or your owned cats do not qualify. Feral cats are accepted Monday and Tuesday between 7 -8 am. No appointments are taken.

Dogs Over 39.9 Pounds
Requires that the dog weigh over 39.9 lbs at the time of surgery or be a breed that will mature to over 39.9 lbs. The owner is asked to make a small co-pay toward the cost of the surgery if they are able to do so.

Spay-Neuter Subsidy Program
DAS offers free spay and neuter services for pets owned by qualified, low-income Dallas residents. Most applicants will be approved for the program if they currently receive public assistance, such as food stamps or Medicaid. Low-income pet owners not receiving public assistance may still qualify for the program and are encouraged to apply.

To participate in the program, pet owners can obtain an application by downloading it at this page or by contacting Dallas Animal Services.  Approved applicants are notified by City staff and provided a list of 10 participating animal clinics to acquire spay/neuter services.

When the spay-neuter surgery is performed, basic immunizations needed at that time are also provided free of charge. The City will reimburse participating veterinarians for their services.
