Capper and Chris Save the Animals Fund

A lifesaving memorial Program benefitting both the clients and students of the Texas Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.

The Small Animal (dogs and cats) Fund, created by Mrs. Capper Thompson, was established as a memorial for Chris Stehouwer, a Texas A&M University student and animal-lover, who was killed in a tragic accident.

The Capper & Chris Save the Animals Fund wishes to help families in need with beloved family pets; especially those pets that would be euthanized rather than be helped when cost incurred would be impossible or a real hardship on a family. The Fund may contribute up to 50% of the total cost, with a maximum of $1000 per case. The animal must also have a treatable disease or injury.

This is through Texas A & M Veterinary School of Medicine--contact them for more information.

Emergency Care Assistance Program

Hannah was brought to the Animal Trustees clinic in late 2005 in a cardboard box. She was 11-weeks-old and had been shot in the leg and left at an office complex here in Austin. Her leg was terribly infected and she was just skin and bones, but her tail started wagging when we lifted her out of the box. It was if she knew that we would help her… and we did.

It took seven months, but after several surgeries and much care, her leg finally healed.

Hannah is only one of many dogs and cats that ATA has helped each year by covering the cost of their care.

In some cases these are owned animals brought in by their guardians desperate for help and knowing that they cannot pay for emergency treatment out of pocket. Others are animals brought into ATA by good Samaritans stopping to help animals injured on the road. In all cases, these animals would likely die without immediate intervention and because of our partnership with Austin Vet Care at Central Park and Animal Medical Center, they received all the care they needed.

The Wellness Clinic is located at 5129 Cameron Rd, in the same building as our Spay/Neuter Clinic. Wellness services are provided for healthy animals only. We are unable to treat sick or injured animals. It is important for animal guardians to have a relationship with a private, full-service veterinarian for these services.

The A.T.A. Wellness Clinic is open seven days a week and services are provided on a walk-in basis only. We do not make appointments. Because of the popularity of our clinic, there is often a wait for services.
