A former member and I are getting strange personal emails. One of these emails talked about a subject I was talking to another member here today about. This is not a subject ever discussed on this forum. I am freaked out at this point.

JustMe, There is something strange going on, that's why i'm so upset about what happened to My bank account. This is the only place someone could have gotten My Email so easy. Where is everyone, anyway? I just got here, but don't see many people.

I talked to my brother this am & he says it sounds like a worm on the ads got through to the Itchmo site. Once any of us logged in, it could access our computers too. I finally just unplugged mine last night,it wouldn't turn off. I have switched anti virus programs & run extras, but all I found was 7 tracking cookies. Everthing is working like normal again though ,its not slow or freezing up & my email seems ok.I checked all the email records & the spam that looked like it was from me did not come from my computer. I'm wondering if its from them getting into the member profiles.Everthing on here seems to be working for me again too, & a lot of it wouldn't all this past week. Trudy- He said you need to not do anything online which shows your info for a few days & change your passwords if possible. I am doing that also.

I really think someone "has" us, whaever that means. What could it be, do you have any ideas? and all the personal mail I get from Itchmo, comes with a warning. I opened them anyway, well they are opened. It just asks a question like do you want to see this. and that is the only mail I get it on.

Something is wrong here. Personal messages may be visible to someone unknown.

You know what else? Just think- Most people will be getting their rebate checks in their bank accounts soon. I wonder how someone can trace something like this and find out what's going on?

When I checked for new viruses on the Symantec & MacAfee sites, their are some variations which send emails like that. Go to those sites & click on viruses & then new threats. Some say you need to see this, or you won't believe this, etc. I still say this is just too much to be a coincidence right after the threads about new problems with brands. And you would be surprised what hackers can get into. 1 of my daughters friends used to work for Microsoft developing security programs & he could get into anything. He sat right here in front of me & got into my bank account in 2 1/2 mins. That was actually reassuring, it took longer to get into my bank than the banks everyone else who was here used. Drew also said try not to go to the home page because thats where the ads are. He said sending a mass mailing probably didn;t affect it, whatever or whoever it was already had all the info.

I keep checking for a virus or anything else too. Nothing shows up. but the Chinese did hack into CNN. That was even in the news. So anyone can do it, that's right.

What we do is have an email address that is dedicated to doing personal business online. That email is not used for even friends or family or for setting up forum id's, etc. I think it is good to keep your personal business email separate from all else. It sounds like from what Filbert said that there is a non-threatening reason for the service outage last week. So maybe nothing else is going on after all. We can only hope that the strange emails Justme got were due to a confidence being breached the old fashioned way, rather that through a PM hack. Let us know if it turns out that way. (No details needed, of course.)

I know that when I search google for a topic, in time I will begin to see spam in my ISP email account that depicts the same topics. It seems nothing is really 'private' any more.

Cross posted from the black hole thread: Please scan for the VBS/Small.n - I downloaded the free AVG virusscan & it caught it on my computer several days ago. I scanned again last night & it seems to be off my computer now. But I don't know if it sent my passwords to someone. Here is what the worm does: http://www.viruslist.com/en/viruses/encyclopedia?virusid=125728"This worm spreads via the Internet as an attachment to infected messages. Infected messages will be sent to all email addresses harvested from the victim machine. It is 1 310 bytes in size. It is written in Visual Basic Script (VBS). Installation When launching, the worm creates a copy of itself in the Windows root directory: %WinDir%\Troyan.vbs In order to ensure that the worm is launched automatically each time Windows is restarted, the worm registers its executable file in the system registry: [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices] "E-Mail" = "%WinDir%\Troyan.vbs" Payload The worm sends itself to all contacts in the address book. It also sends notification to the remote malicious user that the victim machine has been infected. A harvested pwl file is appended to the message. This file contains user passwords. Propagation via email The worm harvests email addresses from the MS Outlook address books. It then cyclically sends its body to all harvested addresses. "

Many ISP have something in their agreement when you sign on that tells you this or something similar will be done. Some free email services do the same based on keywords in messages that you send.
