Looks like we have a continuing problem with new members trying to register and not receiving validation emails from certain domains, and also with current members sometimes encountering problems.  I've sent an email to Ben.

Please report any problems on this thread.  Thanks.

Looks like SARAH from Pets.ca was having some problems. (post #12)

http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=47764

I left a note in that thread explaining the problem - hope she will try again!

Registration no longer requires email approval. So regging should be free. We'll just have to keep an eye out for spam. Merry Christmas!

Hello?  I changed my email and the validation is still applied... which I don't get and which means that the problem isn't really resolved.

Has anyone asked over in the support forum for this type of forum board (the link at the footer of this one) what to do to fix the validation & post notification emails that aren't working here?

If I use a gmail account it will work.. but not the email of my isp. (No, it isn't going into a spam folder in my mailbox)

So, here I am under the expressive account that I didn't delete....

Still have long time problem (since Nov. 6) of no notifications on topics coming through to my ISP. Not in junk mail either. 3cats

I just registered with a new account and no confirmation was needed.

As per the notifications. ISPs are getting tighter on spam filters. I am guessing that's the issue. To get around that is very costly and time consuming, unfortunately...  Undecided

If a member tries to change his email address, he can no longer get into his account as he still needs email validation for that.  This happened this morning to one member.

I'm not convinced it is spam filters at ISPs due to the fact that prior to the forum move I received all the notifications, ergo my ISP wasn't blocking the notification emails.

If some of the moderators who handle the forum settings here could just ask on the support forums for this type of board, maybe the "fix" is free and not costly.

It sure wouldn't hurt to ask them there....

Yup, I changed the email on my "Offy" account and BOOM - validation email required to be clicked... and no validation emails are being received... - so, don't change your email on your profile if you don't received emails from this site.

If somebody sends me a PM, it's not coming through to my inbox......I have to check here to see if I have any.

The last time I got a PM, I found it here, read it & responded......several days later it appeared in my inbox.  So I have no clue what's going on.  I have always gotten the notifications in my inbox prior to this.

If my ISP stopped it, it'd go into my bulk folder but I do check that daily to be sure nothing I want is in there......the PM notification is just not working in my case......or if it does work, it takes a few days......duh!

I keep forgetting to try to sign in at the bottom but I still have to type my password twice when I use the sign in at the top.

Not sure if this is only for registration glitches.....oops...... Tongue

Let me see if I can turn off email validation on email change.

That appears to have worked Itchmo. Thanks!

One thought on the notifications is that they contain a blurb that says if you don't click to read, then you won't get any more.

I don't have a problem getting notifications from 2 other Simple machines forums and didn't have one here until after the move. I didn't have a problem getting notifications on the Itchmo main page updates but it most likely doesn't have that "read or no more notification" caveat.

Odds are that could be the source of the problems in notification emails... lots of folks most likely couldn't read the last notifications and therefore don't get any more - who knows if it didn't gum up more of the forum innards...

Is there a problem registering for a new account again?

I have noticed that several 'guests' have tried to register, yet only 4 have showed up as doing so in the last 2 days.

I have seen it happen repeatedly for a long time, that the "who's online" says someone is registering, and they never show up.  I suspect that there are many reasons a registration would not go through, including failure to provide a valid email address.
