I can see it from here --do you know how to hide it?

Your e-mail is hidden.  Apparently, we can see our own even when it is hidden, but no one else can.

Go to this page and scroll down to the section called "Password Reminder" and follow instructions.

Try going to the page I posted again.  In the instructions where you see the word "login" in light blue, click on it.  You will see the page where you would log on.  Click at the bottom on where it says "Forgot your password?"  It will take you to a page that looks just like the first one I sent you to.  Fill in your e-mail address or click the box that says "ask me my question", then click "Send". (Actually, I think you have to fill in your username or e-mail address whether you want to answer the question or get an e-mail).  You should get an e-mail giving you your password and telling you how to choose another one or, instead of the e-mail, be asked your secret question if you have one.  I can only guess that it might not have worked for you the first time because it does not do it directly from the Help page, but requires going to the login page first.  Hope that makes sense.  If this doesn't work, then I don't know what else to tell you.

I think it's the back button reaction.  The newbies are finding us from both Ichmo and just browsing the Internet, most likely out of some concern for a pet, only to read through the first 4 or 5 recent pages to find all the posts that are political bashing and fear mongering and then they get all confused because they thought they were on a pet forum and just reacted by hitting the back button to get out of here.

I doubt that 'newbies' would be able to find the 'recent post' button that soon,  and even they did, only the posts since they registered would be available to them to see. Whenever I log in from the library, NO posts show up in that browser, I must wait until I get home for that feature to work. Of course, if 'newbies' click on the 'off-topic' button they will see the political posts but then they should understand that if they don't interest them, they don't have to read there.

I think that a lot of 'guests' just want to read and not bother with the 'register' thingy until they feel they have something to share here. And that may take some time for some.

Before I ever even registered as a member on Itchmo, I read the posts daily for about two months. I always used the "view the most recent posts" option as it was too time consuming to search thru the various threads and never had a problem viewing any posts. I feel that this is the way most people look at the forums and this is how I still view them. I was very nervous when I finally decided to make my first post as I am sure other Newbies might feel this way also. But if the forums had been as diverse in non-pet related topics then as it is now, I might of hit the back button too.

I also read on the forum for 3 months before I registered as a member, but read it in the opposite way from Laurie;  I used to read by board and topic, not by most recent posts.  That way it was easy for me to skip the parts I did not care about and just read the topics that were interesting to me.

I think it's pretty common to be nervous about making your first post on any forum, kind of like walking into the breakroom the first day on a new job.  Itchmoforums is comparatively mild-mannered IMO, looking at many news forums that are out there!

I'm glad we have so many people reading!  There is important information here that you can't find anywhere else.  The more information about pet food gets out, the more people will vote with their money--which is the only way it seems possible to change anything.  And I think the one thing most of us probably agree on is that pet food needs to change.

Sorry you are having a problem.  I don't know what else to advise.  Have you tried all of the usual passwords that you have used on various other websites?  Sometimes you can stumble across what it is accidentally.  Even though the experts tell you not to, I usually use the same couple passwords all the time because it is impossible to remember them all if you use a different one for every site you visit!  Then I know that one of them will work when I need it!   Undecided

Catbird your are so right. There is truly  invaluable info here.  The site had been recommended to me and I can not measure how helpful it has been to me.
I loved your analogy of "I think it's pretty common to be nervous about making your first post on any forum, kind of like walking into the breakroom the first day on a new job."..that is so true. I think we are all nervous about introducing ourselves  and before we join many of us read for awhile.I know I did. And boy did I get an education. A good one and my pets are  healthier and better fed because of this site.
Also , there are many, many really bright, funny, pleasant folks here that also make this a very diverse, interesting place to visit.

Thanks, pygmypets!  I'm glad most members are happy here.  It is pretty diverse and congenial here.  There are other forums where I just like to read and they seem very relaxed and happy to have guests.

You have enriched the forum with your posts and photos of your special family.  I really enjoy them.
