I just read up on fickr, looks like fun but a lot of initial set up.  Sounds like each picture can have it's own privacy settings--did I read that right?  I was thinking it would be a great place for my family to post pics so we can stay in touch, but not necessarily let everyone on the internet see them.  But if I wanted to post a pic on the forum, can I just set that pic to public viewing, while leaving the rest set at restricted viewing?

Yes---you can set each pix individually I believe---I think you can even keep them all private and still send it to here!
Anybody else please chime in as I am a newbie with this biz too! Grin

For a photo to show here if it is uploaded to flickr, it needs to be set "public."  You, yourself, would be able to see the photo here and think all was fine, but the rest of us could not view it.

For flickr in general, you can set all your photo uploads to be available to "public" or to "friends," or "family" or even just your own self.  When you do a "send to group, on flickr that photo will then be seen by the entire group on flickr that you sent it to, even a photo that you upload w/ permission only for yourself to view.

How do you put up the little pics I see beside your names?

First you click on your name where the avatar box should be (top right corner of your posts).

The page will go to your personal profile
Onthat page, at the right side is a 2 inch bar with the following headings:
Profile Info
Modify Profile
Actions

Look under "Modify Profile" and clock on "Forum Profile Information"

The page will change and show you

"Profile" with 3 circled items:

o  Personal Picture

o  I have my own picture

o  I will upload my own picture

Click on the circle of "I will upload my own picture"

There is a "browse" bar beside that item where you can look for the picture or image you want to upload for your avatar box.  Once you find it from your files, just click "Open" and the pic should be uploaded

You can then write a title for your avatar
and also you can put a "personal signature" like a favorite quaote or something (if you like)

When you're done, click "change profile" and then exit from the page

BTW, remember if you upload your photos to flickr and wish to share them w/ the world, join the Itchmo flickr Group and then find "send to group" above your photo and from drop down menu do a "your pets on Itchmo" and watch for the photo on the Itchmo flickr stream
http://www.flickr.com/groups/itchmo/

You'll find "a few" of Jake in that Itchmo flickr Group:

Yeah, it worked!!!  Thanks thanks thanks!  It is fairly easy, though I'm sure I'll mess up some settings somewhere along the line.

That's my Chai dog, aka Chi Chi, Cheeba, Girly Girl, and a dozen other names.  She came with the name China, and still gets called that when I need to be "stern" with her.  She was at her 2nd year birthday party last year in this pic.  I'll post more in separate threads tonight.
