Some of the times its happened there were widespread internet problems. So they might have nothing to do with this site.

We actually (got on the phone with comcast), covvered tracert and pings for various sites.  He confirmed my results (I was also flushing the DNS cache, because the DNS address showing up was NOT  related to itchmo whatsoever - but tracetrs to both the IP address - nameserver - showing up in cache, and the actualy IP address for Itchmoforums.com (even without resolving host names) - were coming back as up and running.

So I do believe (In My Humble Geek Opiinion) - that this was a site related issue only - which was why I was getting WEALLY DEPWESSED (I hoped they weren't down for good - I rely on this place to watch out for food problems, investigate the food I feed, and Kaffe's recipes for the future  Roll Eyes)

One thing I had noticed [and it may just be me being paranoid] is that a lot of the outages occur when there is a problem with a name brand food or test results being talked about.

Leslie:

I'm sure you're right......but I think it has more to do with increased traffic when there is a problem with pet food.  We all know that the media isn't rushing to get the story out to the public...... Angry

I believe Itchmo has become a place to go to for more information when something is going on.  Not only does somebody here seem to find that info first but other pet parents have come to rely on this forum for that kind of info.  The chances are also good that people from that very pfc may also come here to see what we're saying.....ya think?

It's JMHO but I think this may have a lot to do with it & the increased traffic may tax it to the max.......& poof...... Tongue

Jan- That makes sense & isn't nearly as scary as deliberate attacks. Thank you.

I am beginning to wonder if the outages have anything to do with when the forum or the hosting facility run backups.  (Most places would back up more often than monthly, but stranger things have happened.)  A webmaster of my acquaintance recently had problems when a new backup system was installed by the hosting facility--the site he works with went down every night when the backups were run!  He had to work some kind of magic so that this would not happen.

Anyone having problems this AM?  It's taking forever for the pages to turn, and for my new posts to show.

The whole internet has been slow for me today.

On broadband at work, DSL at home.

Things slowed down for me later in the afternoon. There are a few thunderstorms around (nothing at severe levels). That will sometimes affect the speed on this dial-up connection.

I've been having trouble with speed & posts showing on 7 off for 3 days. I thought the heat was affecting the connection.

The forum has been running extremely slowly for me the past two days.  Took forever to load this AM and I thought the connection was going to time out.  No other sites that I've visited have been slow.

It's Friday--seems to be the forum's favorite day for going down. Sad
