I am still unable to access the forums via my usual origination in the Pacific NW. I am in right now via another route. I think the Itchmos are still blocked along with other members like 3cat, Trudy, and possibly Carol and Carolo. It could be that we just happen to hit one of the 'black holes' discussed in this article. I tried to trace my route and there are timeouts in the Dallas area but I don't know enough about this arena to be able to tell if that is the glitch. http://www.networkworld.com/news/2008/041008-internet-black-holes.html?t51hbThe other possibility is that some IP's are blocked, but I would assume you'd get a message indicating that. Does anyone know for sure?

You are over my head with routes. How does one determine the route to a website? Obviously back on this morning, April 23, 2008, 12:40 pm PDT.

I ran a DNS lookup on the record and it wasn't found. Meaning they couldn't find the name server. I went thru proxy servers, and the other day, the connection was "refused". Yesterday the url was "not found".
If they fixed any dns records, sometimes it takes many hours for them to propagate across cyberspace.
Sunspots anybody?

Klondike, I'm in the NE and I think I'm hitting black holes. It's taking about three times to hit a topic. [click] - [can't find itchmoforums]-[click]-[can't find itchmoforums]-[type in itchmoforums.com] - and so on. One thread I just can't post on.

I'm in NY and could not get anywhere yesterday and for most of this morning.
As a note of caution too.... I got 143 emails into my junk folder today.
Definitely fakes, but all purporting to be from Itchmo members. The valid ones came into my mail folder.
Seems more like hackers to me............

I'm having trouble posting and staying connected, but I can read via proxy. It must be this black hole thing. Looks like the Itchmos are unable to access the forums since they haven't posted and we are all in WA state. I'm going to not try to post anymore. It's a bit frustrating.

Klondike, if you can still read this, we miss you! I was hoping you would know what is happening...
Sandi K was one of the last people able to connect yesterday, but AFAIK can't get on today.
I had posting problems on Monday night (Wisconsin.) Could send and receive PMs and could read the forum, but couldn't post replies after about 2030 CDT. And I was one of the people who couldn't connect yesterday, from about 1030 CDT, until 0955 CDT today.
Arlo--there is a post from JustMe earlier this morning. Don't know if she is one of the intermittent people?

It's not IP blocking, that would need to be initiated by the Itchmos and there's no reason for them to do that. I suspect they changed the DNS settings on the server and it takes time to propagate over the Internet. That would explain why some can get in and others can't. It can take 24-48 hours to fully propagate everywhere.
I see the Chairman Meow is now gone from the itchmo.com home page, or at least I'm not seeing it any longer. Emily did email us and say they were a paid advertiser, but I think are now taken off by the Itchmos. I don't know if that advertiser's site was hacked or not but I'm sure the Itchmos didn't realize what was on it.

I don't know if this is just a coincidence or what. I accidentally left my computer logged into Itchmo all afternoon and evening until about 10-10:30 pm on Monday, 4-21. When I realized it, my screen was frozen. Nothing worked. I had to turn off the computer. Then it would not reboot. My husband, very irritatedly, had to reinitiate with all the software. We lost all of our files, pictures, documents, Itunes for my daughter, everything not on an internet file. We had a similar crash about 6 months ago, but were able to retrieve documents and photos. The photos were on CD, at least most of them, thank goodness. I emailed Itchmo, Ben said my crash would not be related to their outage. We have a good firewall and virus protector, etc, but I guess we could use more. Many attempts to track etc have been blocked or cleaned up regularly. My husband said leaving the computer online for hours gives hackers a good chance to get in. Does anyone know if that is true? I didn't think so because what would be the difference between being idle and being active??
One more thing: On and off I have also been trouble finding the Itchmo page. All day yesterday after we re-whatevered the computer, I could still not find the page. Has anyone else had this sort of computer crash issue?

Maybe, DMS. Happened to a desktop once when it was on overnight and there was a major power surge that went right through my uninterruptable power supply. Sounds like that, or trojan, worm, virus. Got an email from another poster and had this experience myself on itchmoforums.com when it crashed: it doesn't crash until you go back to the "Home" index page of the forums. Might run a little funky, but doesn't go down until you do that for two of us, I think. How's that for IT smarts? but that's what happened in this last week. After the forums crashed on the Forums Home Index page, no more access? ?? Anyone else have that experience?

We have a surge protector and I know we did have a partial power surge through part of the house on Sunday or Monday. I can't pinpoint which day as they really do blur one into the other. I remember I had to turn off the computer because it froze, but it did come up afterwards and work. I bet you've solved the mystery, 3cats. Thank you.
Do you know if there is any way to retrieve the lost files after a crash? Short of calling in a "Geek Squad" person, that is? We decided not to spend the extra money since we were able to get it going again. I can rebuild most of my important files, but it will be a lot of work. Aren't files always in the hard drive somewhere? Do you think they could still be retreived? Some of the photos that were not on a disk are the ones I want the most. The really strange thing about this is that I had been thinking I needed to delete some of my files--but not that many.
Thanks again.

I believe, DMS, you have to call in the Geek Squad for possible file retrieval from your hard drive. There are companies that specialize in it for businesses, and it's quite pricey. I haven't had good luck with the local Best Buy Geek Squad personally.
