anyone know of a beagle rescue or breeder in the Bay Area or within a reasonable distance? My parents are looking for one. Mom prefers female (spayed fine!) 1-3 yo. closer to 2 ideal. She doesn't want a puppy, but a young adult is good. They have beagle experience. Ben their beagle went to the Bridge a few weeks ago. Mom was going to wait a bit, but my dad said today he wanted another He's been looking in the paper, but mom stopped that and called me! so I'm off to hunt! any help appreciated Oh, and she specifically wants a 13". Another reason she doesn't want a puppy. Ben grew larger and she wants to make sure the pup stays on the smaller side. New beagle is with my folks. They picked up this lil' lady yesterday http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10369557&mtf=1

I'm sorry that your parents lost their beagle, but happy to hear that they are considering a rescue for a new addition. Have they/you googled or looked on Petfinder? Can't imagine there isn't at least one (likely others) who would be delighted to find a home for a rescued beagle. Let us know what they find out. catmom5

thanks. Yeah, they lost him to mouth/bone cancer. But he was a lil' fighter and lasted a good year past his original diagnosis/surgery estimate. He was 12-13yo. I was surprised but pleased they called. Unfortunately dad wants one NOW, but I think mom can hold him off so they can do the right thing. Plus, she doesn't want to train a puppy, so dad would be a fool to go and pick one up from the newspaper I've started on petfinder and rescues. Will also look at breeders for any adults and see if I can hook her up to No Cal dog shows. Just thought I would put the word out here and a few other places. This is a good time of year to look at shelters and rescues at least.

Hey K! I can't tell you how happy I am! They got their last beagle through a broker. They didn't know the layout when it came to getting a pup and I didn't say anything because as a kid, they took us to dog shows to find a pup, mate for pup. So I always thought my parents knew right because they taught me the responsible breeder way when I was a kid. They just didn't know times had changed. I was so praying when they wanted to go the rescue route they wouldn't hit the hardcore rescuers. My parents are good dog parents, but you know how some of these groups can be. . . . All I can say is, thanks Dog, the stars aligned and it all worked out nice and easy! I AM SO FREAKIN' THRILLED!!!!!!!!!! My mom was so cute when she was talkin' about Girl Girl's a bit nervous around men, but mom and I talked about it and I think everything will be fine. She's (mom) already gotten after my sister for trying to direct her. Mom wants the pup to be unconfused and everyone following her direction with Girl so she can settle in I'll post pics as soon as I get them. I've demanded them, but I may not get them until she loses some weight (she gained weight in rescue). Mom wants to get her in shape, but I'm a beggin' for a tail pic

Dad was looking for puppies in the papers, which is not something any of us would expect from him. He's partly the reason my mom moved so quick, but I think it's going to be great for both. Apparently, she has great manners, lol!~ I clued my mom into the "honeymoon" period and told her to keep giving positive feed back on all those good behaviors the pup is giving her now

Thanks CW! I'm over the moon they adopted a rescue pup. They had several they liked Methinks there's another in the future I asked for pics more times than you can imagine during the conversation, so hopefully I'll be able to post some soon

Girl is a beautiful little dog and it sounds like a perfect match. Good job all the way around!! May they have many, many years together. Congratulations!! I'd love to see more pictures.
OT: Don't go to Petfinder so much anymore because I worked for two years as a katrina reunion volunteer and got so burned out by so many sad stories. While I was looking at Girl, I checked the message boards and there are still people trying to find their pets or their owners. OTOH, there are people in the central US dealing with floods who left their animals home to die. Do we never learn?

Your father's sense of urgency reminded me of my brother's theory that we become addicted to pets. I posted that story a couple of places about Jackie's owner and how he and his wife didn't have a dog for 10 years after losing one to cancer. They never stopped missing her or having a dog in general. Finally they got Jackie and realized they had wasted 10 years of their lives....
