I have been taking care of John, Quincy, and Adam.  These three were abandoned inside a foreclosed house and were suffering from hepatic lipidosis when the next door neighbor rescued them.  John and Adam are fine and have returned to the shelter to be adopted out together.  Quincy has been a little more difficult - his ALT is still 62 (brothers are in the 30's).  I don't want to transition him back to commercial food (too many toxins!) and I want to wait another month to neuter him.  I want to keep him on milk thistle awhile longer.  He weighs about a pound less than his brothers.  I know, I'm a lightweight, softie, whatever you want to call me, but I really like this little cat.  And, most importantly, he gets along with my other animals.

So, what do you think?

Definitely.

Adoptees are so grateful yu took them in.  Jimmy Kitty was abandoned when someone moved from our Apartment Complex (he was about 5-6 months old).  He was very socail with other cats, litter box trained (except for his pre neuter days), and is a very good kitty.  Sure - he escaped, came back severly underweight, and was lucky to be alive.

But his latest checkup says he's fine, and a good diet helped to rehabilitate him.  There's still a little of the wild in him, but I believe with time, he will be the sweetest thing in the house.  He's already grateful to be out of the elements, and appreciates 2 squares a day, places to sleep, and other kitties to socialize (or demonize) with.

I think Quincy would be very lucky if could adopt him.  Of course, only you know if this is right for you and the rest of the family.  Even if you decide it is too much for you, since you are so attached already, maybe it would be an option for you to foster him until you could find him a really special home?  (Have to say I hope it can be with you.)

By the way, the neighbor broke into the house to rescue the kittens.  No one would come help her rescue them, so she broke a window and called the cops on herself. Last week I testified in court that she should get a medal, not a fine.  The shelter paid for the window replacement.  Case thrown out.

I'm not a good one to ask, but if he gets along with your other cats AND you feel like you can handle one more, I'd vote for keeping Quincy. Sounds as if the extra TLC you can provide would be great for him, too.

Whatever you decide, bless your heart for taking care of all of them. It's a tough job to foster and have to send them back. (That's how I ended up with five ~ fostering but NOT sending them back . . .)

Let us know what you decide to do.
Blessings

A match made in Heaven, IMO.   Wink  You know exactly what he needs and how to take care of him.  He gets along with the others.  He is special to you.  Sounds wonderful to me.  If you have the room for one more, go for it.

Definitely keep Quincy, Arlo.  When your heart is telling you something, best listen and follow it... all will be made clear later when BIG kitty rewards come  Cheesy Cheesy

I thought about fostering cats but all my family said I will just end up keeping each and everyone of them becuase I am the quintisential push-over weakling mushy mushy cry cry breaky-heart can't bear to let 'em go kind of cat person.  Maybe in another 5 years I'll be able to psyche myself up to take the pludge... can you interview each and every prospective adopter?  I know I'll be a terror and probably insist that they pick up home-made food from me and make them sign papers that they won't feed anything lese without my "OK," not to yearly vaccinate, keep indoors only unless there's  secure enclosure, go to vets recommended by me, etc etc...   Can't be done, right?

I have just noted that June is official Adopt-A-Cat month, per a calendar that I have.

I think that's a message, Arlo... Cheesy

OK, I got the message. Quincy is staying with me.  I'm afraid of what bad diet, wrong anesthesia, etc. might do to him. Recovery from hepatic lipidosis has been tough.

Kaffe, I do interview all potential adopters for ones I fostered. Make them bring in their kids and other pets, etc.  I ask about new furniture.  Often those guys want to declaw. (Disgusting and painful!) I wouldn't be able to foster, if I couldn't help select the new home.  I'm not the only one like this either.  The foster families are a tough bunch.

{I love his goatee.}
