GA. Chatsworth: Last minute plea: Killing kittens !! See how sweet they are!

The only thing they may know of the grand adventure of life is a few weeks in the cage they were born in and then death!

Let's try to arouse some last minute interest in these babies who, it seems, were only born to die.

PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG FOR THEM!!  I am not sure how many more hours of life they have.

Thanks very much!

Trudy these always make me cry, I'm been browsing on Petfinder and there are just so many older cats in my area.  And it is kitten season which means the adults don't have a chance of finding a home.  Why oh why don't people spay and neuter?

It breaks my heart, too.  The older cats do not stand a chance.  Which is why I will no longer adopt kittens, as much as I love them.  I figure they have the best chance, because most people want kittens.

When faced with this situation, I always think of the story "The Star Thrower" by Loren Eiseley.  No, I can't save them all, but I can make a difference in the lives of these few.  (If you have never read Eiseley, I highly recommend his work, especially that story.)

I cannot read those heart wrenching pleas . . . so many wonderful, precious animals who will never make it out of the rescues and shelters alive. I have lit a candle for them. I don't know how you can even read all the emails, trudy. It just breaks my heart and makes the situation seem so overwhelming.

I wish I could take in another animal or two, but it's just not possible.

I like the starfish story, too, but haven't read the book. I will have to, now.

It is sad but you never know how fate works.  Maybe a guest from the area where some of those cats are located will happen to see the cat that was meant just for him or her in Trudy's post.

This always breaks my heart too. I can't take in any more now either. The adoption room at the pet store I sometimes shop at is now full of kittens. There were people there adopting one, the last time I went.

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. And I know you would take one if you could.
My heart is already broken, being in rescue for so long.
I'm thinking of starting something to do with adopting older pets. Advetising, etc. Writing, whatever will get peoples' attention.
Hope you're right klondike.
A lot of us on here have said, We would only adopt older if We had the chance. I think more people need to understand this.

I agree Trudy, that's a good thing to do. I meant to add to my post that if I can ever adopt again, I would definitely take an older cat. Several of mine over the years have walked up to us as adults and they have always been great cats.

That would be a great thing to do, Trudy.  A way to start might be to start a thread here on the topic of adopting adult pets.  Lots of people read this forum or are directed here by searches.  And IMO, like the starfish story, if it saves even just one, it would be worth it.

It's so sad.

I did start a topic on adopting older cats.  Maybe I should move it over here to the shelter section.  I've been thinking a lot about it lately.  Feel like I must do my little bit to help.

Trudy- I can't even look at these or others or go into the shelter when I drop off donations. It breaks my heart. My bil now has 4 inside & 3 feral adults & 2-3 wk old feral kittens outside. I have 5 & just can't afford any more.I just wish I could rescue them all !

Myself included.  I would only adopt another one if I lost one (which, of course, is not in my plans!!)

It is sad, and my kitties don't need to parent other kitties.  I just currently have a handful with proper nutrition, saving for proper vet care (and emergencies) - I just can't overpopulate the household (but they are so lovable at the adoption sites, sure wish I could).

I'm sure the ones from petfinder are legit.  But please be careful.  There are emails out there that are just a twist on the Nigerian scams.  Most are about a missionary in Africa trying to find a good home for his dog back in the US, just pay shipping.  Then the dog gets stuck in customs or something and you must send more money before the dog dies.  But it's all a scam, there is no dog.  I also know somebody who has received several now that are about a seriously ill child in the family forces them to find new homes for their pets, just pay shipping.  She can see from the originating addresses that they are scams too.  Really cruel to pray on peoples love for animals to scam money.
