I will see you soon my little boy! Momma loves you

« on: June 20, 2009, 04:31:57 PM »

My sister just called me and told me about this little baby kitty they found.  The kitty's story isn't that good so I am not going to share it here (to follow forum rules)  If you would like to know more about baby kitty, please let me know via PM.

This baby was found by my sister's friend.  His little lip is cut and appears to be blind.  He needs to be seen by a vet asap too.  My sister says he is hiding and doesn't know what to feed him.  She is feeding him milk??  If you can help even in just giving me advice in what to do as far as giving this baby food, or formula?  He looks to be about 5 weeks or so (is what I was told).  A few of his teeth have been broken off and some are loose.  My sister is going to ask her neighbor if she may take him in as she has a cat baby.  My sister can't take baby home because of her 2 bassett hounds... they have never been socialized with a cat and this baby doesn't need any more suffering.

My sister lives in Florence South Carolina.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

mgt- 5 weeks the kitten should be able to eat some pureed canned. If you think its malnourished, you can get replacement formula at a feed store to mix with the canned,or even add some baby cereal also.If you have any e vets there are canned formulas that are rx for very young kittens too.Wish I could help, but I'm about 14 hours north.  If your sister goes to the evet & needs help financially, let me know. Can always spare a little. Also if she has a crate for the dogs, that would fit a small foil pan for litter,& blanket, food & water. Having a safe place may help keep it calm.

mgt..........milk is not such a good idea as most cats are lactose intolerant.
He should be able to eat wet food at this point, perhaps with a little water added, especially with the broken teeth.......I am trying not to hiss and growl.

I can help a bit too with the finances.

Guys I can't tell you how much I appreciate you all!!  You are all so kind!!

I know this is a hard question to answer but is there any way that anyone can PM me with a suggestion of some canned kitten food?  I don't have a kitty so I don't know what to do...

Would tuna be ok to feed for today?  Probably not huh...  Lesliek, what kind of cereal?  Like cream of wheat?

I am going to call my sister in a bit and tell her No more milk!!  I will let you guys know what is going on with the kitten.

Just plain baby  meat in the small jars - beef maybe - would be OK for a couple of days. Make sure that it does not contain any onions. That can be obtained anywhere.

Baby food cereal.Mixed with replacement formula or water & added to the canned.Usually the rice on the baby cereal. She could also get organic [no garlic or onion] meat or meat & sweet potato baby food to thin the canned food. I doubt if she's going to find many places open ,unless they have a major pet food store chain nearby. If she has to get some at the grocery or convenience store for tonight, stick with Purina. NO MARS ! Not Fancy Feast unless the kitten won't eat. A little tuna probably won't hurt, but why add salt & mercury worries if you don't have too. However if it seems dehydrated, they will almost all drink the water from canned tuna.

mgt.
Beech Nut brand baby meat does not contain onions or garlic.  Just meat and broth.  Chicken might be good for a kitten.  Sometimes you can find the kitten milk in a grocery store in the pet food dept. if a pet store is not open.  Brand name on the kitten milk would probably be KMR - I don't know of any other brands that make it.

If Beech Nut brand baby meat can't be found, Gerber also make some without onions or garlic.

Poor little kitty. I'd also be willing to donate something to help.

I just want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart!!  I am also going to be donating to have her take the baby kitten to the vet.  Thank you all so much!!  I will let you know what happens!  I think they might just take kitty tomorrow, I am really not sure.  I really really think the best thing for this baby is to go the the vet asap...  due to his circumstances, I think that would be the best for him...   Embarrassed

I called my sister and told her about the baby food.  She said she was going to go to the store and get some.

mgt,

Just make sure that your sister understands that the baby food is for only a sort term feeding, as this baby needs more nutrition than what the baby meat contains. But it will do until she finds the right kitty food to feed.

Thank you all so very much!!  You all are so great!!  I told my sister about the beachnut baby food she picked up some jars now I have to help her pick a kitten food...  That is where I am stumped...  I am affraid to pick!!  I am going to go through some of the foods here on the forum and go from there.  I think kitten can only eat canned (due to broken teeth and cut up little mouth)... my sister said that the baby fits in her hand so I am not sure how old he is (she said he is really tiny).  She might take him in to the vet tomorrow, I will let you all know how that goes, I appreciate all of you who are willing to help with the finances!!!  I know how tight things are right now and for you guys to offer is such a blessing!  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!  My sister said that the baby is looking better today.  I think she is going to take him to her house now because her friend doesn't look like he wants him around  Embarrassed  He works all day long so baby would be alone for a really long time.  My sister said she might put him in the bathroom in the tub with some pillows and towels, does anyone think thats a bad idea?  She cant keep baby long because of her dogs, one in particular, Harley, the one I have told you guys about (with bladder cancer) is sometimes very aggressive because she is in pain and she doesn't really know how she will react.  She is going to ask her front door neighbor if she knows anyone who might take this baby in... I hope he finds a good home soon!  He really needs to know he is loved!  I hope she can find someone with such a loving heart as all of you!!!  Thank you so much!!!
