http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm163169.htm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --5/29/09--Union International Food Company of City of Industry, CA is recalling Lian How Brand White Peppers with red labels, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The Lian How Brand White Pepper in 5 lbs plastic containers with red labels were distributed in Southern California to restaurants and wholesalers from September 2008 to March 2009. No other Lian How Brand White Pepper products are affected by this recall.

I think what the real problem is we got kind of lost in the go go go go go mentality, slammed on the brakes in 2007 and the car still hasn't come to a complete halt yet.

Wished I lived in the tropics so I could grow my own!  What's out there that ISN'T contaminated in one way or another?

Buy local.  Buy organic.
If you ate today, thank a farmer, hopefully a small, local farmer.

Remember the thousands & thousands of pets that died to give US a wake-up call about the safety of ALL food and products.

Hey you have a great idea purringfur.  Instead of putting out a recall list of human and pet food, how bout putting out a daily list of things they know dont have a problem....course there might only be 1 or 2 things on that list but it would be easier to figure out what one can eat....lets see today its soup and walnuts.   Wink
