Went to my local Kroger grocery chain this Sunday. Saw General Mills cereals on sale at prices
below 3 bucks for a huge box. Got home. Got an email from another Itchmo poster, very
different part of the country, saying the same thing about cereals on sale at her local
Publix market. Anyone else seeing this too generous to maybe not be suspicious
phenomenon? I'm in the Southwest. Other poster is on the East Coast. Sorry to post this
in food recalls because it's not a recall. Just want to find out if others are seeing it, too.
Supply-and-demand? Some other motive?

eta: 1 pound 9 oz box of Honeynut Cheerios, 2 for 5 bucks here.

some supply and demand .. some it was a good crop and bushel prices were low, plus it is mid fall and the harvest is fully in ... gas prices are also down = lower overall costs

We have 2 boxes for $3.00.  I have never seen it so low, even with lower gas prices a year or two ago.  These a regular sized boxes, a savings of $2. 39.  We are in Tampa.

A wise decision, Karen. Ever notice how much "extruded art" cereals resemble pet food kibble?
Plus the ingredient lists read like a Who's Who for possibly hiding the m-word. But cheaper than
the Dollar Menu, even when you add in half a banana. So some mornings necessary. Hope it
doesn't have an "off-taste" like the September 17 recalled cereals. The joke could be on the consumer ...
that's why I asked what people were seeing. Just never ever seen it this cheap, not for years.
Trying to alternate with Bob's Red Mill oatmeal and barley. But some billing cycles just not possible.

Well, last shopping trip, warned sis its getting harder and harder to avoid the M word (and everything comes from China, can't tell anymore).

My diet is simple (some of the best food is being shorted, lol - my organic burritos now come in 8 per bag rather than 10 - like we wouldn't notice).

Is it in the Coffee Creamer (the price of Nestles went down over a dollar, avoided the temptation)?  Is it in the yogurt (that's my primary breakfast)?  Is it in the chicken (a primary staple for dinner).  Dunno.  So far, am avoiding Mac n Cheese?

Might just as well resort to wieners (hot dogs) - they may be safer.  Grin

I haven't noticed dramatic price reductions in organic cereals.  And organic wheat flour prices don't seem lower.  Just got some for making bread.

We use quite a bit of cereal here, and most of it is General Mills.  I never buy cereal unless it is on sale, and then I stock up a bit also using coupons to further reduce the price. So, I am always watching for the sale prices.  The sale prices I have seen recently don't seem to be any different than what I have been seeing over the last year or more.  Generally they are in the range of 2/$5 or 2/$4.

Organic cereal has not gone down in price here but hasn't gone up either. Do not eat the other brands as do not know how safe they are anymore. The Brown Rice crips contain organic whole grain brown rice, organic fruit juice concentrate (apple, peach, pear or pineapple) sea salt. The Rice Crunch-Ems have Milled rice, corn bran, evaporated can juice, salt, natural vitamin E.
