MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia, the biggest market for U.S. poultry exporters, will ban imports from 19 producers in the United States and warned on Friday that another 29 suppliers face a possible ban on health and safety grounds.

DANGEROUS BACTERIA
Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev, in a separate statement, said inspectors had more than once found an excess of arsenic, salmonella, E.coli and other dangerous bacteria in shipments of U.S. poultry to Russia.

Partly politics, maybe. But lets us all know.

3cat is this the first because someone here talked about sanctions for Russia because of the goings on in Georgia over there?

But like you said it gives people here a heads up on the chicken produced and sold right here too. Maybe chickens and other animals fed a non medicated, non gmo'd, low pesticide/insecticide feed are a safer way to eat.....and feed our pets too.....

I don't know about the politics, just that the Russians are also threatening to ban
another 22 unnamed U.S. chicken producers on that FSIS list. Aren't there reports
of Simmons undercooking in warning letter from FDA? Also worry about raw diet feeders
not using health food store organic sources, if there are any.

Sorry, apparently it's under decontaminating:

3cat the link you gave does show the undercooking and also the inside of the can lining flaking off into the canned food. So with this ban going on would that mean a possibility, IMO, of botulism from undercooking also - just asking as I'm not a scientist on how all food reacts but this has happened to castleberry's and they are canned by?

I lack a scientific background, too, JJ. I wonder where all this Simmons Foods
chicken is going to end up after the September 1, 2008 ban goes into effect?
Convenient that there's a pet food plant in Arkansas.

3cat this effective date - does that mean you will have to stock up on chicken from another place before then - that is if you eat a lot of chicken or any at all. Now we all know where the refused, cwap ends up after all - in the IMO pet food as usual. People won't eat it - just sell it to the processing plants - they'll make use of it one way or the other IMO.
