I don't know what's going on, but you have to read the link to get more, there are so many.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080710/ap_on_bi_ge/recalls

The following recalls have been announced:

• About 20,500 Honda HRX walk-behind lawn mowers, manufactured in the United States by the American Honda Motor Corp., because the rear shield can break off and fail to protect the operator from debris. The company has received one report of a broken rear shield, but no reports of injuries. The mowers were sold by Home Depot stores and other authorized dealers around the country between October 2007 and June 2008. Details: by phone at 800-426-7701; by Web at http://www.hondapowerequipment.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.

• About 500,000 children's necklaces with ballet shoe charms, manufactured in China and distributed by Parragon Inc., because parts of the charms contain high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested by children. No injuries have been reported. The necklaces were available with the purchase of children's book called "The Magical Ballet Slippers" or "Ballerina's Magical Shoes" at retail chains and independent book sellers around the country between January 2003 and June 2008. Details: by phone at 888-480-2854; by Web at http://www.parragonrecall.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.

I check in on a similar site every once in awhile:

http://www.recalls.org/

I'm always stunned by how many kid's things are recalled EVERY MONTH for lead.  I've been looking at that site for a year now, and it is the same thing over & over.  Nothing is going to change unless Americans start refusing to buy those things that are repeatedly problematic.  No one has the time or inclination to research this stuff, so they keep buying it & it keeps getting imported.

Gotta stop buying at dollarworld and wallyworld. Where do you think they get the stuff from? Germany, switzerland - heck no it comes from mostly asian countries and the track record speaks for itself in volume of recalls that are a daily occurrence. Buyer beware should be the motto. Anyway who has money to spend on this stuff is doing better than a lot of us.

These days, when I go into a store and someone asks "Can I help you?"

I say "Sure, do you have anything that's made in the USA?"

I didn't think so.

That is a good one, 5CatMom ! !

I'll start doing that - Target's employee's just love to ask that question too!

You could also start filling out the 'customer complaints' forms and asking for a 'special department' in the store just for products made in the USA or Canada!
