What kind of grains is this mix made out of? Is this from stuff stored in silos for up to a year and sprayed with Malathion 3 times a year to keep down the mold from forming and creating aflatoxin? How much processed food contains grains that are not being reported moldy already and just processed into foods? How long before they tell the public - just like the beef - no one would know if it wasn't for the Humane Society filming the downer cows.

I dont know JJ it just hit the news when I posted it.....I read they say it is salmonella and that nobody has been ill from it but that's kinda BS like all these recalls because with salmonella unless a doc runs a test on your stool they would not KNOW you were ill from salmonella..they would maybe blow it off as the flu....If anyone googles the CDC and salmonella you will see...it is not often tested for so who WOULD know if they had it..unless they were in the % of infants and kids...sick people and elderly who would be near death ...and even then not a sure shot it would be tested for...sigh

Good alternative to store bought mix. You can mix the dry ingredients the night before. Get some good non-GMO flour. These are great!
Scratch Pancake Mix
INGREDIENTS: 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (I add another 1/2 cup for a thicker batter) 2 tablespoons sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 1/4-1 1/2 cups milk 2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla (optional) 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
DIRECTIONS: 1. In a bowl, mix together all the dry ingredients. 2. Make a well in the centre and pour in the milk. 3. Start with 1 1/4 cups milk, adding up to another 1/4 cup if necessary, as you mix it with the flour. 4. Add the two eggs, vanilla if using and oil, whisking until mixed but still a bit lumpy. 5. Heat a frying pan (if it is not non-stick, you will need to melt a bit of butter or oil in it) and when hot, pour in some pancake mix. 6. How much depends on how experienced you are at flipping pancakes and how big you want them. We do about 1/4 cup a time for small, easy-to-flip pancakes but you could make this as much as 1/2 cup of pancake mix. 7. If you are adding fruit, I like to sprinkle it on top of the pancake now. 8. When the pancake starts to bubble on top and is golden brown on the cooked side, turn it and continue cooking until both sides are golden brown. 9. The first pancake is always a bit of a test so adjust the batter by adding more flour if you need to make it thicker or more milk if you want a thinner pancake. In either case, just add a few spoonfuls at a time until you get it right. 10. Repeat the cooking process with the remaining batter. You may need to adjust the heat as pan tends to get hotter as you keep making pancakes. 11. Keep the cooked pancakes covered with a tea towel, to keep them warm while you finish cooking the rest.

5catmom is right, very easy to make homemade. You can also mix the dry ingredients for biscuits, etc & store in the fridge or freezer. Just write the amounts & directions on the container, that way if you make them often it is faster. For anyone who drinks cocoa you can make your own mix with powdered milk & do the same.

INGREDIENTS: ENRICHED BLEACHED FLOUR (BLEACHED WHEAT FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMIN MONONITRATE, RIBOFLAVIN, FOLIC ACID), SUGAR, LEAVENING (SODIUM BICARBONATE, SODIUM ALUMINUM PHOSPHATE, MONOCALCIUM PHOSPHATE), SALT, CALCIUM CARBONATE (A SOURCE OF CALCIUM).
CONTAINS WHEAT INGREDIENTS. MAY CONTAIN TRACES OF MILK, EGG AND SOY.
Do you think it is the eggs? Since the article says due to raw or undercooked ingredients.

5CatMom, Thanks for the recipe. I love pancakes!
My first thought was eggs, too. Guess I better read up on salmonella.

kaffe,
You're welcome. Slowly, I'm using up the processed and boxed food in my cupboards and replacing with the good 'ol basic stuff.
The local co-op sells staples in bulk - rice, beans, flour, corn meal, rolled oats. It's very inexpensive because there's no fancy packaging.
Cooking from scratch is a little more work, but at least we know what we're eating. Tastes better, too!

It is becoming increasingly apparent that the food supply isn't safe anymore.
IS NO ONE IN DC WATCHING THIS??
Are they all so caught up in getting elected that they just don't give a rat's ass about us??
What has to happen before someone in authority does something??
aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
